Central Connecticut Blue Devils Baseball
The Central Connecticut Blue Devils baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Connecticut, United States. The team is a member of the Northeast Conference, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I (NCAA), Division I. Central Connecticut State's first baseball team was fielded in 1935. During their time in NCAA Division II, they went to the national baseball tournament twice. The team plays its home games at CCSU Baseball Field in New Britain, which opened in 2010 and seats 1,000. The Blue Devils are coached by Charlie Hickey (coach), Charlie Hickey. The Blue Devils have claimed nine Northeast Conference baseball tournament championships and appeared in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship nine times. Northeast Conference
The Northeast Conference (NEC) is a collegiate athletic conference whose schools are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Teams in the NEC compete in Division I for all sports; football competes in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Participating schools are located principally in the Northeastern United States, from which the conference derives its name. 2004 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament
The 2004 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was held from June 4 through June 27, . Sixty-four NCAA Division I college baseball teams met after having played their way through a regular season, and for some, a conference tournament, to play in the NCAA tournament. The tournament culminates with 8 teams in the College World Series at historic Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska. In the 58th College World Series and the 55th series held in Omaha, the Cal State Fullerton Titans rode the arm of Jason Windsor, named the Series' Most Outstanding Player, to prevail over the field and claim the 2004 National Championship. The Titans won Bracket II with a 3–1 record and went on to sweep Bracket I winner Texas in two games to claim the title. The 2002 NCAA Division I baseball season, play of college baseball in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level, began in January 2002. The season progressed through the regular season, many conference tournaments and championship series, and concluded with the 2002 NCAA Division I baseball tournament and 2002 College World Series. Ricky Bottalico
Ricky Paul Bottalico (; born August 26, 1969) is an American former professional baseball right-handed relief pitcher, who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals, Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Mets, and Milwaukee Brewers. He compiled a career 3.99 earned run average (ERA), with 116 saves. Early life Bottalico played for South Catholic High School in Hartford, Connecticut under coach Tom DiFiore. Bottalico went on to attend Florida Southern College before transferring to Central Connecticut State as a catcher. He was made a pitcher and eventually became the team's top reliever. Bottalico received little attention from scouts, went undrafted in the 1991 Major League Baseball draft, and played that summer for an insurance company in an amateur men's league in Connecticut.
