Centerförlaget (first known as Seriemagasinet Förlag) was a Swedish comic book publishing company that operated from 1948 to 1970. It is considered the first Swedish comics publisher. A division of the Swedish magazine king T. Armas Morby's company Press & Publicity AB,Patrick, Kevin. ''The Phantom Unmasked: America's First Superhero'' (University of Iowa Press, 2017), p. 88. the company mainly published translated versions of American and European comics. The company's first title, and one of its longest-lasting, was '' Seriemagasinet'' (''The Comic Strip Magazine''), launched in 1948 and running more than 818 issues. Semic Press
Semic Press is a Swedish comic book publishing company that operated from 1963 to 1997. Known for original comics as well as translated American and European titles, Semic was for a long time the country's largest comic book publisher. For many years, Semic published the official translations of American (mostly) superhero comics produced by DC Comics and Marvel Comics. The Semic Group had divisions in a number of European countries — mostly to distribute translated American comics — including Spain, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, France, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary. Original titles published by Semic included '' Bobo'', '' Bamse'', '' FF med Bert'', and Swedish treatments of James Bond and ''The Phantom''. In 1997 Semic was sold to the Danish media house Egmont. ''Buster'' was a sport comic magazine published in Sweden, Norway, and Finland in the period 1967–2005. Publication history In Sweden, ''Buster'' was published from 1967 to 2005, first by Centerförlaget (1967–1970), then by Semic Press (1970–1997), and finally by Egmont Publishing (1997–2005). In Norway, ''Buster'' was published from 1972 to 1977 (successively by Romanforlaget, Nordisk Forlag, and Semic), and then a new series, also by Semic, ran from 29 May 1984 to Summer 1994. In Finland, ''Buster'' was published from 1972 until the 1980s. Overview At first most of the material was taken from the UK edition, but as time went on the magazine produced more and more original material, with the focus relatively soon concentrated on British sport comics.
