Cemil Gülbaş (born 1980) is a Turkish chess player with the title International Master. He is the 2018 Turkish Chess Champion. * In June 2004 he participated in the ''Echternach Open'' tournament, with 352 players. Gülbas reached a shared 8th place with 7 points out of 9 rounds, one point below the winner, GM Leonid Kritz. * In December 2007 he became 8th at the "IM Norm Tournament", held in Eupen. * Gülbaş earned the FIDE title International Master (IM) in 2009. * June 2012 he participated, with in total 114 players, at the ''Klenkes-Cup'', in Aachen. Echternach
Echternach (, ; or locally ) is a commune with town status in the canton of Echternach, in eastern Luxembourg. Echternach lies near the border with Germany, and is the oldest town in Luxembourg. History The town grew around the Abbey of Echternach, which was founded in 698 by St Willibrord, an English monk from Ripon, Northumbria (in present-day North Yorkshire, England), who became the first bishop of Utrecht and worked to Christianize the Frisians. Leonid Kritz
Leonid Kritz is a Russian-German chess grandmaster. Chess career Kritz began learning chess from his father at the age of 4. In 1999, Kritz won the U16 section of the World Youth Chess Championship. Afterwards, he began training under Josif Dorfman. Kritz participated in the FIDE World Chess Championship 2004, where he defeated Krishnan Sasikiran in the first round, but was defeated by Rafael Leitão in the second round. In October 2004, Kritz represented Germany at the 36th Chess Olympiad. In August 2007, Kritz won the New England Masters. In September 2008, Kritz tied for first in the 2nd SPICE (Susan Polgar Institute for Chess Excellence) Cup with Pentala Harikrishna, Alexander Onischuk, and Varuzhan Akobian.
