Cecelia Tapplette Pedescleaux, also known as Cely, (born August 6, 1945) is an African-American quilter of traditional and art quilts, inspired by historians, other African-American quilters, and quilt designs used during the Underground Railroad to communicate messages to slaves seeking freedom. Her quilts have been shown in China, France, Washington, D.C., New Orleans, and in other locations in the United States. A solo show of 75 of her quilts were shown at the Le Musée de Free People of Color in New Orleans (2013–2014). Career Pedescleaux's interest in textile arts began as a child when she began to crochet and knit. In the late 1960s, she began creating quilts based upon traditional designs. As she read design and other books about American slaves, her designs became Afro-centric. She has created quilts based upon African art, like the bright, beaded quilt with the Ashanti Adinkra symbol Gye Nyame, meaning "accept God", from Ghana that was shown at the Inspiration Exhib ...

Jacques Laurent or Jacques Laurent-Cély (5 January 1919 – 29 December 2000) was a French writer and journalist. He was born in Paris, the son of a barrister. During World War II, he fought with the Algerian Tirailleurs. Laurent was elected to the Académie française in 1986. Laurent belonged to the literary group of the '' Hussards'', and is known as a prolific historical novelist, essay writer, and screenwriter under the pen name of Cecil Saint-Laurent. The 1955 film ''Lola Montès'', directed by Max Ophüls, was based on his historic novel based on the life of Lola Montez. He wrote Jean Aurel's Oscar-nominated 1963 World War I documentary, '' 14-18''. He also directed the film ''Quarante-huit heures d'amour''/''48 Hours of Love'' (1969). Laurent-Michel Eon de Cely (born in Bayeux 25 September 1735; died in Marseille 12 December 1815), was the last bishop of Apt from 1778 to 1801. Early life Laurent-Michel Eon de Cely, son of Baron Michel Eon (died 1780), and his wife Marie-Thérèse Dorothée de Faudoas, born in the parish of Saint-Sauveur Church (Bayeux), Saint-Sauveur, Bayeux. Tonsured 3 March 1747, he was made in 1756 as lord commendatory prior of the Priory of La Valette-lès-Toulon which he resigned in 1786. He became vicar general of the Bishop of Autun Yves Alexandre Marbeuf. He was made bishop of Apt in 1778, and consecration, dedicated in January 1779 in Issy. In his diocese, he removes the seminar and introduced the Parisian Breviary. During the French Revolution, he fled to Italy on 24 August 1789, he arrived in Rome in October where he devoted himself to the study of antiquities.
