Cece Bell
Cecelia Carolina Bell (born December 26, 1970, in Richmond, Virginia) is an American author, cartoonist, and illustrator. Most well known for her graphic novel ''El Deafo'', Bell's work has appeared in ''The Atlantic'', ''Vegetarian Times'', ''Newsweek'', the ''Los Angeles Times'', ''Working Woman (magazine), Working Woman'', ''Esquire (magazine), Esquire'' and many other publications. Biography Bell suffered hearing loss as a child due to a case of meningitis. As a result, she had to get used to using bulky and prominent hearing devices around her school-age peers. Bell attended the Paier College of Art as an art major and went on to get a graduate degree in illustration and design at Kent State University in 1991. She became a freelance commercial artist, illustrator, and designer for an array of projects before beginning her career as a full-time author-illustrator. ''Doc McStuffins'' is an animated children's television series created by Chris Nee and produced by Brown Bag Films. It aired for five seasons on Disney Jr. from March 23, 2012, to April 18, 2020. The series centers on a girl who fixes toys, with help from her four toy friends. The series features songs written and composed by Michelle Lewis, Kay Hanley, and Dan Petty. The series received positive reviews due to the series' concept and the main character, as well as its portrayal of African Americans (Nee stated in 2013 that Doc is African American, as proposed by Disney during her initial pitch, Nee initially only knowing she wanted a girl doctor) in a Disney series. The album adopted a more urban flair to it with a mixture of pop, R&B, and hip hop.
