Charles De Cazes
Charles de Caze (1808 – October 4, 1867) was a notary and political figure in Canada East. He was born in Brittany in 1808, arrived in Quebec City in 1854 and settled in the Eastern Townships. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada for Richmond—Wolfe in 1861 and defeated in 1863. He wished to improve the state of agriculture in Canada East. De Caze was the first francophone member elected in the Eastern Townships. After his term in office, he was appointed inspector of schools for the counties of Saint-Hyacinthe, Bagot, and Rouville. Jean-Michel Cazes (born 25 March 1935, in Bordeaux) is a French winemaker and insurance executive. He managed the wine holdings of AXA Millésimes until 2000, the family insurance agency, and the Cazes family estates until 2006. He is the son of André Cazes and grandson of Jean-Charles Cazes who acquired the family's initial holdings. Biography He completed his degree at the École nationale supérieure des mines de Paris (1958) (where he also played Rugby), then earned an M.S. in petroleum engineering at University of Texas (1960) as a Rotary Scholar. He served in the French Air Force (1960–1962), leaving with the rank of lieutenant. Mario Cazes (17 July 1890 – 3 November), was a 20th-century French composer, conductor and violinist extremely popular during the 1920s and 1930s. He was a recipient of the ordre national of the Légion d'honneur. Marius Joseph Cazes, the son of Cazes Joseph-Auguste and Avérous Zélie, was the eldest in a family of five brothers and two sisters. Pierre-Jacques Cazes (1676 – 25 June 1754) was a French painter who specialized in religious and mythological subjects. He also taught several other French artists including François Boucher and Jean-Siméon Chardin. Biography Cazes was born in Paris in 1676 to an officer and protégé of the Marquis de Louvois. At the behest of his father, Cazes was first tutored by an otherwise unknown artist named Ferou, concierge of the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture. He was later instructed by the painters René-Antoine Houasse and Bon Boullogne. Cazes competed in the Prix de Rome competition of 1698 with ''Joseph’s Cup Found in Benjamin’s Belongings'', but came in second place. He won the next year with ''Vision of Jacob in Egypt'', but chose not to go to Rome and instead remain in Paris. Romain Cazes (1810–1881) was a French historical painter. Life Cazes was born at St. Béat ( Haute-Garonne) in 1810. He was a pupil of Ingres, and is known chiefly by his portraits and subjects from sacred history. His paintings and murals decorate the Paris churches of St. Francois Xavier and Notre-Dame de Clignancourt, as well as churches in the provinces. Like all of the pupils of Ingres, except for Flandrin, he never rose above mediocrity, and died in 1881.
