Cayamant is a municipality in La Vallée-de-la-Gatineau Regional County Municipality, Quebec, Canada. The village of Lac-Cayamant is located at the north end of Lake Cayamant, west of Gracefield, Quebec, Gracefield. It was formerly known as the Township Municipality (Quebec), Township Municipality of Dorion, named after Antoine-Aimé Dorion (1818-1891). It was renamed to the Municipality of Cayamant at the end of 1988, due to many problems created by having the identical name to that of the city of Vaudreuil-Dorion, Dorion (which merged with neighbouring Vaudreuil in 1994). The new name refers to the largest lake in its territory, Lake Cayamant. The Algonquin term ''Kakgama, Kandikagamaw'', or ''Kandikagama'' means "porcupine". Alternatively, it may come from ''Kantuagama'', which means lake with a large bay. The village has a primary school, a church, and some convenience stores, restaurants and some basic commerce. Gatineau () is a provincial electoral district in the Outaouais region of Quebec, Canada, that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. Kitigan Zibi (also known as River Desert, and designated as Maniwaki 18 until 1994) is a First Nations reserve of the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation, an Algonquin band. It is situated near the confluence of the Désert and Gatineau Rivers, and borders south-west on the Maniwaki, Quebec, Town of Maniwaki in the Outaouais (region), Outaouais region of Quebec, Canada. La Vallée-de-la-Gatineau (, ''The Valley of the Gatineau'') is a regional county municipality in the Outaouais region of western Quebec, Canada. The seat is in Gracefield. It was incorporated on January 1, 1983 and was named for its location straddling the Gatineau River north of Low. It consists of two cities, fifteen municipalities, and five unorganized territories. Antoine-Aimé Dorion
Sir Antoine-Aimé Dorion (January 17, 1818May 31, 1891) was a French Canadian politician and jurist. Early years Dorion was born in Ste-Anne-de-la-Pérade into a family with liberal values that had been sympathetic to the Patriotes in 1837–1838. His father, merchant Pierre-Antoine Dorion, was a representative of the Patriote party in the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada from 1830 to 1838. After studies at the Nicolet seminary from 1830 to 1837, in his twenty-second year went to Montreal to read law with Côme-Séraphin Cherrier, an eminent lawyer with whom he retained a lasting friendship. On the 6th of January 1842 he was admitted to the bar of the province, became the partner of M. Cherrier, and in the course of a few years attained the highest rank in his profession. Gracefield, Quebec
Gracefield is a city in La Vallée-de-la-Gatineau Regional County Municipality in the Outaouais region of Quebec, Canada. It was reorganized on 13 March 2002 when three former municipalities (Gracefield, Northfield, and Wright) were merged into one. Its name comes from Patrick Grace who opened there the first business and was mayor of Wright from 1885 to 1890. Gracefield is located along the Gatineau River and Picanoc River. Its area is dotted with many lakes, most of which are lined with numerous summer camps and cottages. History In 1840, Augustin Ethier, originally from Saint-Martin on Île Jésus, became the first settler in Gracefield.
