Frank Caws
Francis Edward Caws (21 August 1846, Seaview, Isle of Wight 8 April 1905, Sunderland) was an English architect. Caws was born the son of Silas Harvey Caws and his wife, Emma Matilda (née Cave). Frank married Catherine Francis Riddett of Ryde at St Helens Church Isle of Wight on 4 February 1868. His architectural activities Frank Caws was articled to Thomas Hellyer of Ryde Isle of Wight (1860-4). Following which, he worked at South Kensington Museum, returned to Thomas Hellyer as assistant 1864. Joan Caws
Joan Caws (née Halsey; died November 2, 2017) was a British English draughts player. Caws was a multiple-times English champion, a 1979 British champion and the first Women's World champion (3-Move system, 1986), having successfully defended the title in 1987 and 1989. Sports career Joan has been introduced to Endlish draughts by her brother Bill Halsey, who was representing Birmingham and invited her to take part in Open Air Tournament in St Nicholas' Park, Warwick. Joan, who was the only woman in company of 50 men, met there her future husband Ian Caws. In 1969 they played together in the English Open, and two years later this event coincided with their honeymoon. Joan Caws participated in almost all English and British Open tournaments for the following 42 years, as well as numerous tournaments in the US, Republic of Ireland and Denmark. Mary Ann Caws (born 1933) is an American author, translator, art historian and literary critic. She is Distinguished Professor Emerita in Comparative Literature, English, and French at the Graduate School of the City University of New York, and on the film faculty. She is an expert on Surrealism and modern English and French literature, having written biographies of Marcel Proust, Virginia Woolf, and Henry James. She works on the interrelations of visual art and literary texts, has written biographies of Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí, and edited the diaries, letters, and source material of Joseph Cornell. She has also written on André Breton, Robert Desnos, René Char, Yves Bonnefoy, Robert Motherwell, and Edmond Jabès. Matthew Rorison Caws (born August 5, 1967) is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. He is best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the alternative rock band Nada Surf. Caws is also a member of the indie rock duo Minor Alps, alongside Juliana Hatfield. Early life Caws was born in New York City, the son of Peter James Caws and Mary Ann Caws.
