Mehmet Cavit Bey
Mehmet Cavit Bey, Mehmed Cavid Bey or Mehmed Djavid Bey (; 1875 – 26 August 1926) was a Dönme–Ottoman economist, newspaper editor and leading liberal politician during the dissolution period of the Ottoman Empire. As a Young Turk and a member of the Committee of Union and Progress (CUP) he had positions in government after the constitution was re-established. In the beginning of the Republican period, he was controversially tried and executed for his alleged involvement in an assassination attempt against Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Early years and career Mehmed Cavit was born in Salonica in 1875. His father was Recep Naim Efendi, a merchant, and his mother was Pakize; they were cousins. He had two brothers and two sisters. His family had links to followers of Sabbatai Zevi, and he was a Dönme, making him a crypto-Jew. Onur Cavit Biriz (born 16 October 1998) is a Turkish windsurfer, who currently competes in IQFoil class. He is a student at Izmir University of Economics. He is an alumnus of Cağaloğlu Anadolu Lisesi. Biriz competed as the youngest sailor at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Cavit Cav (1905 – 29 April 1982) was a Turkish Olympian road cyclist. He was born 1905 in Selanik, then Ottoman Empire. Cavit Cav took up cycling, and won all the competitions he participated in. In 1924, he went to Paris, France, to represent Turkey at the Summer Olympics. However, he was not permitted to take part at the race because his bicycle did not meet the Olympic standards. The same year, the first Istanbul Championship and Turkish National Championship were held with lessons learnt from the Olympic standards. Cavit Cav won the Istanbul Race and became Turkish champion in the individual time trial and endurance categories. He continued his success through 1932. He won also the marathon races that began first in 1925 between Istanbul and Konya and later extended to other cities. Cavit Orhan Tütengil (1921 – December 7, 1979) was a Turkish sociologist, writer and columnist, who was assassinated. Biography He was born in Sebil, a village of Tarsus, in Mersin province of what was then the Ottoman Empire. Following his primary education in his hometown, he attended Haydarpaşa High School in Istanbul finishing in 1940. Tütengil studied philosophy at Istanbul University and graduated with a degree in 1944. Between 1944 and 1953, Tütengil served as a high school teacher for philosophy in Antalya and Diyarbakır, and worked in village institutes as well. In 1953, Cavit Orhan Tütengil started his academic career by entering the Faculty of Economics at Istanbul University as an assistant for sociology. He conducted his Ph.D. research on "''Political and Economic Opinions of Montesquieu''", which won him the 1957 Science Award of the Turkish Language Association.
