Cavalcade Of Bands
The Cavalcade of Bands is one of many competitive band organizations in the United States and is one of several major circuits in the mid-Atlantic states (other circuits include Tournament of Bands and USBands). Cavalcade was founded in the late 1958 by the members of the Mid-Atlantic Judges Association and its member high schools. The organization currently has over 145 member schools. It provides competitive performance opportunities for marching bands and jazz ensembles. Cavalcade sanctions approximately 42 field band events as well as about 25 jazz ensemble events annually. Formerly, Cavalcade also sanctioned indoor percussion, color guard, and dance team competitionsbut for the 2020 season have discontinued this aspect of their program. ''Cavalcade of Bands'' is an early 1950s American television series which aired on the now defunct DuMont Television Network. Broadcast history Produced by Drug Store Television Productions and DuMont, ''Cavalcade of Bands'' featured performances by popular and obscure Big Band orchestras, and aired on Tuesdays from 9-10pm ET beginning on January 17, 1950.McNeil, Alex (1980). ''Total Television'' (4th ed.). New York: Penguin Books. The series was a spin-off of DuMont's popular ''Cavalcade of Stars''. The initial host was Fred Robbins. The DuMont Television Network (also the DuMont Network, DuMont Television, DuMont/Du Mont, or (incorrectly) Dumont ) was one of America's pioneer commercial television networks, rivaling NBC and CBS for the distinction of being first overall in the United States. Tournament Of Bands
The Tournament of Bands (TOB), also known as Tournament of BandsTournament Indoor Association (TOB/TIA), is an American school band association and governing body that sanctions marching band, color guard, and drumline, competitions in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern United States. The "tournament of bands", or "tournament indoor", culminates in regional championships, or Chapter Championships, followed by the Atlantic Coast Championships (ACC), every November and May. Founded in 1972 by the National Judges Association (NJA), TOB is composed of 439 member bands organized into eleven regions or chapters. USSBA
USBands, formally United States Scholastic Band Association and sometimes referred to as USSBA, was formed in the Fall 1988 to provide high school marching bands an opportunity to compete in a circuit featuring top judges from across the continent. US Bands is based in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and the event is managed by BD Performing Arts. Members of USBands include over 700 participating high school marching bands. Bands are offered over 150 festival opportunities and invitations annually to compete at major regional championships and at the U.S., Scholastic Band Championship. In competitions, bands are classified by size and compete with bands within their classification. The classes include range from Group 1, the smallest, to Group 6, the largest. Rose Parade Marching Bands
For the Tournament of Roses Parade, top marching bands from all over the world are invited. Many of the nation's top high school marching bands participate, along with college and organizational marching bands. Prior to the parade, most of the bands will participate in one of three "Bandfest" shows at Pasadena City College and at other Southern California venues. The bands participating in the parade have also developed traditions. For example, Pasadena City College's Lancer Marching Band always marches in the Rose Parade, along with high school band and color guard students from all over Southern California, who are selected by audition the previous autumn.
