Catire Bello
Catire Bello (April 24, 1989–February 20, 2001) was a Venezuelan racehorse who was most famous for his participation in the Florida Derby and becoming the 4th Venezuelan Triple Crown winner. Background Catire Bello which roughly translates to pretty blonde in Spanish was a Chestnut colt bred at Haras La Quebrada. He had no white markings on his feet but he had a signature white blaze on his face to go along with his orange coat. His sire was Inland Voyager a modest stakes runner who never finished better than 4th in graded stakes company. However he was quite an influential sire in Venezuela. Florida Derby
The Florida Derby is an American Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-old horses held annually at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida. Since 2005, it has been run five weeks before the Kentucky Derby, which is held on the first Saturday in May. Thus the Florida Derby is currently run either at the end of March or the beginning of April. Added to the racing schedule in 1952, the Grade I race is run at miles on the dirt. The purse was increased to $1 million in 2011 but was reduced to $750,000 for 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The purse was once again increased to $1 million in 2022. Cañonero II (April 24, 1968 – November 11, 1981) was a Venezuelan champion Thoroughbred horse racing, race horse that may be best remembered for winning the first two legs of the 1971 Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing#United States Triple Crowns, U.S. Triple Crown, the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. The Tropical Park Derby is a Listed American Thoroughbred horse race currently run at Gulfstream ParkHallandale Beach, Florida in mid-December. It is an ungraded stakes race for 3-year-olds with a purse of $140,000 run over the turf at miles. Prior to 2014, the race was held at Calder Race Course in Miami Gardens, Florida. The race was once held in early January, often on New Year's Day, which made it the first "derby" of the year. In 2011, Calder ran the race twice: once in January and again in October. The Pat Day Mile Stakes is a Grade II American Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds held on dirt over a distance of one mile scheduled on Kentucky Derby Day at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The Clásico Internacional del Caribe or Caribbean Derby is the thoroughbred most important black-type stakes race in the Caribbean for three-year-old Thoroughbred, thoroughbred horses, held on the month of December.
