Catholic And Royal Army Of Anjou And Haut-Poitou
The Catholic and Royal Army of Anjou () or Catholic and Royal Army of Anjou and Haut-Poitou (), also nicknamed the ''Grande Armée'' (), was the largest royalist army during the War in the Vendée against the French First Republic. It was formed and operated in the northern and eastern parts of the coastal region. The army's mobilization capacity was 40,000 men. Although the unit had permanent organization, it was very loose. The army was organized into divisions that grouped parish companies, with no intermediate units. The army successfully stormed Saumur on 9 June 1793. On June 12, Jacques Cathelineau was elected the army commander. Then, the highest-level Royalist commanders decided to attack Nantes, but the attack in the end of June failed due to the lack of coordination between the army of Anjou and Haut-Poitou and the army of Pays de Retz and Bas-Poitou. Beaupréau () is a former Communes of France, commune in the Maine-et-Loire Departments of France, department in western France. On 15 December 2015, Andrezé, Beaupréau, La Chapelle-du-Genêt, Gesté, Jallais, La Jubaudière, Le Pin-en-Mauges, La Poitevinière, Saint-Philbert-en-Mauges and Villedieu-la-Blouère merged becoming one commune called Beaupréau-en-Mauges. Plon is a French language, French book publishing company, founded in 1852 by Henri Plon and his two brothers. History The ''Éditions Plon'' were created in 1852, by Henri Plon and his two brothers. They were given the title of ''Imprimeur de l’Empereur'' (Imperial publisher) and published the correspondence of Louis XIII of France, Marie Antoinette and Napoleon I of France. Étienne-Alexandre Bernier
Étienne-Alexandre Bernier or ''Abbé Bernier'' (; 31 October 1762 – 1 October 1806) was a French religious figure and Royalist politician during the French Revolution. Born in Daon, Mayenne, Bernier was a professor of theology at the University of Angers and a vicar in the city of Angers. He refused to take the Civil Oath demanded by the Revolution, and, in 1793, joined the Revolt in the Vendée, and, for a while, was its leader alongside Jean-Nicolas Stofflet. He negotiated the peace with French Revolutionary Army General Lazare Hoche, and worked to have the Vendée pacified. Under Napoleon Bonaparte, Bernier was assigned to negotiate the unification of nation and church in France with the Papal delegation of Pius VII. After successful completion of the 1801 Concordat, he was named Bishop of Orléans by Napoleon in 1802. Argenton-les-Vallées () is a former commune in the Deux-Sèvres department in western France. On 1 January 2016, it was merged into the new commune Argentonnay, and became a delegated commune of Argentonnay. It is situated in the valley of the River Argenton, from which it takes its name. Louis Marie de Salgues, marquis de Lescure (13 October 1766 – 4 November 1793) was a French soldier and opponent of the French Revolution, the cousin of Henri de la Rochejaquelein. Biography Early life He was born in Versailles and educated at the ''École Militaire'', which he left at the age of sixteen. Lescure was in command of a company of cavalry in the ''Regiment de Royal-Piémont''. In 1791, he married his cousin Victoire de Donnissan de La Rochejaquelein, who was also the cousin of Henri de La Rochejacquelein, another royalist rebel of Vendée. Being opposed to the ideas of the Revolution, he emigrated in 1791, but soon returned, and, on the Insurrection of 10 August 1792, took part in the defence of the Tuileries Palace against the mob of Paris. Bressuire
Bressuire (; ; Poitevin: ''Beurseure'') is a commune in the French department of Deux-Sèvres, region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The town is situated on an eminence overlooking the Dolo, a tributary of the Argenton. Notable buildings Bressuire has two buildings of interest: the church of Notre-Dame, which, dating chiefly from the 12th and 15th centuries, has an imposing tower of the Renaissance period; and the castle, built by the lords of Beaumont, vassals of the viscount of Thouars. The latter is now in ruins, and a portion of the site is occupied by a modern château, but an inner and outer line of fortifications are still to be seen. The whole forms the finest assemblage of feudal ruins in Poitou. The name The name "Bressuire" comes from two elements, being ''Berg'' (hill) and ''Durum'' (fortress).
