Catherine Anne Chichester-Cooke (2 August 1942 – 20 February 2004), known as Catherine Cooke, was a British architect and a Russian scholar of international renown. She was lecturer in design at the Open University and also lectured and taught at the Department of Architecture at the University of Cambridge. Life Cooke was born in Bishop's Stortford on 2 August 1942, the only child of a brigadier in the Royal Engineers. She trained as an architect between 1961-7 at the Department of Architecture at the University of Cambridge, where she was one of a handful of women students in her year. After a short spell in architectural practice in Helsinki, notably not at the office of the Finnish architect Alvar Aalto as her father wanted, and then at Casson Condor in London, she returned to Cambridge to undertake her Ph.D. on Soviet Town Planning, which she completed in 1975. Lady Catherine Killigrew ( 1530 – 27 December 1583) was an English gentlewoman and scholar, the wife of Sir Henry Killigrew. Biography Catherine was the fourth daughter of Sir Anthony Cooke and Alice, daughter of Sir William Waldegrave. Her older sister Anne was the wife of Sir Nicholas Bacon, and another sister Mildred was the wife of Lord Burghley. Catherine was said to have been proficient in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. Lady Catherine married Sir Henry on 4 November 1565, and had four surviving daughters. Sir John Harington, in the notes to his translation of ''Orlando Furioso'', has preserved some Latin lines in which she asked her sister Mildred, wife of Cecil, Lord Burghley, to use her influence to get her husband excused from going on an embassy to France. Katharine, Lady Cook ( Timpson; 1863 – 17 May 1938) was a British medical missionary who worked in Uganda. She co-founded the Church Missionary Society Hospital at Mengo, which opened in May 1897, and served as its matron until 1911. In 1918, she began training midwives via the Maternity Training School in Namirembe, which she founded. She later became consulting physician to the Government European Hospital in Kampala. Missionary work Katharine Timpson went to Uganda as a medical missionary, following work at Guy's Hospital in London. She was accepted by the Christian Missionary Service in 1896, despite opposition from older missionaries who felt that she should not do medical work. She conducted rounds on foot and by bicycle.
