Cathedral Of The Holy Redeemer
The Cathedral of the Holy Redeemer is the main church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Multan, Pakistan. Father Shahzad Niamat was the cathedral parish priest, and Father Shakeel John the assistant in 2008. Recent history On October 25, 1990, about 2,000 people participated in the golden jubilee celebration of Multan diocese at Holy Redeemer Cathedral. There was great rejoicing in the cathedral on 8 December 2004 as Bishop Andrew Francis ordained six priests of the diocese. On 23 September 2007 at the Holy Redeemer Cathedral, about 1,000 Catholics gathered to watch the official inauguration of the Padre Pio Health Centre on the cathedral grounds. Multan (; ) is a city in Punjab, Pakistan, on the bank of the Chenab River. Benny Mario Travas is a Pakistani prelate of the Catholic Church and Archbishop of Karachi, Pakistan. He served as Bishop of Multan from 2015-2021. Biography Travas was born in Karachi, Pakistan, on 21 November 1966. He received his early education from St. Patrick's High School, Karachi from where he graduated in 1983. He graduated from the Christ the King seminary and was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Karachi on 7 December 1990 and then spent seven years in pastoral work. In 1997, he received a licentiate in canon law from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome. Andrew Francis (29 November 1946 – 6 June 2017) was the Pakistani Catholic prelate who served as the Bishop of Multan from 2000 to 2014. Biography He was born in Adah, Pakistan on 29 November 1946. He was educated at St. Mary’s Convent school, Adah and St Francis High School, Lahore. He received his religious training at the Christ the King Seminary in Karachi. On 10 January 1972, he was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Lahore.
