Catene (album)
''Catene'' is a double studio album by Italian singer Mina, released in October 1983 by PDU and distributed by EMI Italiana. Overview This album continues the joint soundtrack cycle with RAI for Paolo Frajese's program ''Trent'anni della nostra storia'' (Thirty Years of Our History), dedicated to the history of the broadcaster. This time Mina covered songs originally released between 1950 ( Louis Prima's "Buona sera") and 1969 (Lucio Battisti's "Acqua azzurra, acqua chiara"). Two singles were released in support of the album. The first, " Rose su rose", was released in early 1984 and became the opening theme for that year's Sanremo Music Festival. The song reached number sixteen on the singles chart. The B-side was the song "Ninna Nanna", written by Massimiliano Pani and Valentino Alfano, and was not released on any album until 1998. Mina Anna Maria Mazzini (born 25 March 1940) or Mina Anna Quaini (for the Swiss civil registry), known mononymously as Mina, is an Italian-Swiss singer and actress. She was a staple of television variety shows and a dominant figure in Italian pop music from the 1960s to the mid-1970s, known for her three-octave vocal range, the agility of her soprano voice, and her image as an emancipated woman. In performance, Mina combined several modern styles with traditional Italian melodies and swing music, which made her the most versatile pop singer in Italian music. Banana Boat Song
"Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)" is a traditional Jamaican folk song. The song has mento influences, but it is commonly classified as an example of the better known calypso music. It is a call and response work song, from the point of view of dock workers working the night shift loading bananas onto ships. The lyrics describe how daylight has come, their shift is over, and they want their work to be counted up so that they can go home. The best-known version was released by Jamaican singer Harry Belafonte in 1956 (originally titled "Banana Boat (Day-O)") and later became one of his signature songs. Armando Trovajoli
Armando Trovajoli (also Trovaioli, 2 September 1917 – 28 February 2013) was an Italian film composer and pianist with over 300 credits as composer and/or conductor, many of them jazz scores for exploitation films of the Commedia all'italiana genre. He collaborated with Vittorio De Sica on a number of projects, including one segment of '' Boccaccio '70''. Sergio Bardotti (14 February 1939 – 11 April 2007) was an Italian lyricist, composer and record producer. Life and career Born in Pavia, Bardotti studied piano for seven years and graduated from conservatory with a degree in Theory and Solfeggio. After having performed in nightclubs with the stage name Sergio Dotti, he moved to Rome, employed by RCA for his literary branch. His first song as lyricist was "La nostra casa", which was released as B-side of the Gino Paoli's hit "Sapore di sale", launching his musical career. Bert Kaempfert (born Berthold Heinrich Kämpfert; 16 October 1923 – 21 June 1980) was a German orchestra leader, multi-instrumentalist, music producer, arranger, and composer. He made easy listening and jazz-oriented records and wrote the music for a number of well-known songs, including " Strangers in the Night", “ Danke Schoen” and " Moon Over Naples". Early life and career Kaempfert was born in Hamburg, Germany, where he received his lifelong nickname, Fips, and studied at the local school of music. A multi-instrumentalist, he was hired by Hans Busch to play with his orchestra, before serving as a bandsman in the German Navy during World War II. Charles Fowler Singleton Jr. (September 17, 1913 – December 12, 1985), known as Charlie "Hoss" Singleton, was an American songwriter, best known for having co-written the lyrics for "Strangers in the Night" and " Moon Over Naples" (later covered as "Spanish Eyes"). Singleton wrote or co-wrote over a thousand songs. "Strangers in the Night" reached number-one on the ''Billboard'' charts for Frank Sinatra, and the Elvis Presley version of "Spanish Eyes" had sales of over three million copies.
