Catch 22 is an American ska punk band from East Brunswick Township, New Jersey. The band was formed in 1996 by guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Tomas Kalnoky, who left the band in 1998 and later formed Streetlight Manifesto. Founding members remaining in the band are vocalist/saxophonist Ryan Eldred, trumpeter Kevin Gunther, and drummer Chris Greer. Biography Catch 22 was fronted by guitarist/vocalist Tomas Kalnoky and drummer Chris Greer who recruited trumpeter Kevin Gunther, who was working in a local record store. Bassist Jason Scharenguivel, saxophonist Ryan Eldred, and trombonist Todd Seaman rounded out the original lineup. Greer, Kalnoky, and Scharenguivel were formerly in "Gimp" before Tomas fronted Catch 22. The band released a self-produced demo tape, ''Rules of the Game'', in 1997. Birch Hill Nightclub was a music venue and nightclub in Old Bridge Township, New Jersey. Edna's Goldfish
Edna's Goldfish was an American ska punk band from Long Island, New York. Together from 1997 to 2000, their studio albums include ''Before You Knew Better'' (1998) and ''The Elements of Transition'' (1999), both released on Moon Ska Records. The video for their song "Veronica Sawyer" received some airplay on the MTV show ''120 Minutes''. The band toured with other ska-punk bands such as The Toasters, Catch 22, Mustard Plug, Reel Big Fish, and Less Than Jake. After their 2000 tour with Rx Bandits and The Gadjits, the band decided to split in order to pursue other interests. Singer Brian Diaz went on to form The Reunion Show with ex-members of Step Lively and The Lightweights, and trombonist Ian McKenzie continued to play with Catch 22. ''Alone in a Crowd'' is the second album by Catch 22, and the first and only studio album featuring the band's second lineup (featuring Jeff Davidson as lead vocalist, replacing Tomas Kalnoky). It was recorded in June 2000, and released on October 10, 2000. Composition The album features a song trilogy, "What Goes Around Comes Around," "Bloomfield Avenue," and "Neverending Story," which follows two young lovers who commit multiple acts of homicide on a cross-country spree before finally succumbing to their own personal demons. Themes on the album include a longing for childhood and home, and a general feeling of alienation from the rest of the world. The end of the album features seven blank tracks, each 22 seconds long, followed by a bonus track that starts after 22 seconds of silence, bringing the album to a total of 22 tracks. ''Washed Up!'' is an EP by American ska-punk band Catch 22 which was released in 1993 through Victory Records. It showcased the sound of Catch 22's second lineup after the departure of frontman Tomas Kalnoky and bassist Josh Ansley. The last track, "The Death of My Blood Is Your Indulgence," is an ode to their label, Victory, for the label is mostly a hardcore label. The band announced a contest to decipher the lyrics of the song at one point. Three bonus tracks appear after track 4 on some copies.
