Catalonia
Catalonia is an autonomous community of Spain, designated as a ''nationalities and regions of Spain, nationality'' by its Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia of 2006, Statute of Autonomy. Alejandro Catalán (11 December 1968 in El Pobo de Dueñas, Spain – present) better known as Alex Catalán, is a Spanish director of photography, who has worked in more than 20 feature films and other short films which have won several prizes. Catalan wines are those that are produced in the wine regions of Catalonia. Occasionally, the appellation is applied to some French wine made in the Catalan people, Catalan region of Roussillon and neighboring areas, also known as Northern Catalonia or the ''Pays catalan''. Catalan's Conjecture
Catalan's conjecture (or Mihăilescu's theorem) is a theorem in number theory that was conjectured by the mathematician Eugène Charles Catalan in 1844 and proven in 2002 by Preda Mihăilescu at Paderborn University. The integers 23 and 32 are two perfect powers (that is, powers of exponent higher than one) of natural numbers whose values (8 and 9, respectively) are consecutive. Catalan Solids
The Catalan solids are the dual polyhedra of Archimedean solids. The Archimedean solids are thirteen highly-symmetric polyhedra with regular faces and symmetric vertices. The faces of the Catalan solids correspond by duality to the vertices of Archimedean solids, and vice versa. One way to construct the Catalan solids is by using the Dorman Luke construction. The Catalan solids are face-transitive or ''isohedral'' meaning that their faces are symmetric to one another, but they are not vertex-transitive because their vertices are not symmetric. Moses Chayyim Catalan
Moses Chayyim Catalan (? in Padua, Italy – 1661 in Padua) was an Italian poet. A son of the physician Abraham Catalan, he was rabbi in his native town, and died there at an advanced age in 1661. It was to him that the first letters of Isaac Vita Cantarini, whose teacher he was, were addressed. His "Metzaref ha-Sekel", a rhetorical pamphlet on man, has never been published. He wrote a poem in honor of the marriage of his sister Perla to Raphael Gans Levi, which can be read either as Hebrew or as Italian. It has been reprinted by Johann Christoph Wolf, ''Bibliotheca Hebræa'' iii. 726. In 1645 he wrote a similar poem in honor of Shabbethai Astruc. Eugène Charles Catalan
Eugène Charles Catalan (; 30 May 1814 – 14 February 1894) was a French and Belgian mathematician who worked on continued fractions, descriptive geometry, number theory and combinatorics. His notable contributions included discovering a periodic minimal surface in the space \mathbb^3; stating the famous Catalan's conjecture, which was eventually proved in 2002; and introducing the Catalan numbers to solve a combinatorial problem. Biography Catalan was born in Brugge (now in Belgium, then under Dutch rule even though the Kingdom of the Netherlands had not yet been formally instituted), the only child of a French jeweller by the name of Joseph Catalan, in 1814.
