CatCon (convention)
CatCon is an annual convention and adoption event for cat enthusiasts held in Pasadena, California. Founded by journalist Susan Michals, the event debuted in 2015 at The Reef in downtown Los Angeles, returned there in 2016, and has been hosted at the Pasadena Convention Center from 2017 onward. Described as a comic con for cat people, the event advocates for the adoption of cats and raises money for cat-related charities. Cats
The cat (''Felis catus''), also referred to as the domestic cat or house cat, is a small domesticated carnivorous mammal. It is the only domesticated species of the family Felidae. Advances in archaeology and genetics have shown that the domestication of the cat occurred in the Near East around 7500 BC. It is commonly kept as a pet and working cat, but also ranges freely as a feral cat avoiding human contact. It is valued by humans for companionship and its ability to kill vermin. Its retractable claws are adapted to killing small prey species such as mice and rats. It has a strong, flexible body, quick reflexes, and sharp teeth, and its night vision and sense of smell are well developed. It is a social species, but a solitary hunter and a crepuscular predator. The Pasadena Convention Center is a convention center in Pasadena, California, United States. It consists of three buildings. Pasadena Civic Auditorium The Civic Auditorium, one of the major structures in the Pasadena Civic Center District, was built in 1931 and is best known for being the home for the Emmy Awards from 1977 until 1997. It was designed by architects George Edwin Bergstrom, Cyril Bennett, and Fitch Haskell. It is the former home of the Pasadena Symphony Orchestra.
