Castroverde
Castroverde is a municipality in the province of Lugo, in the autonomous community of Galicia, Spain. It belongs to the comarca of Lugo. Castroverde is very rural area. The main economic activity is milk and meat production. There are also a few rabbit and poultry farms. Rural tourism has some importance with a few rural hotels. Because farming is increasingly automated, Castroverde's population shrank during the 20th century, and prospects say that this process will continue until the present century. Baldomero Pestana
Baldomero Pestana (Castroverde, – Bascuas, Province of Lugo in Galicia, ) was a Spanish photographer, painter, and figurative artist. Biography He emigrated in his childhood to Argentina and began studying photography there as a teenager. He married Velia Martínez in 1951 and remained with her until her death in 2003. In the 1950s, he started working as a photographer in Buenos Aires, where one of his first photo sessions was with Dizzy Gillespie at the Teatro Casino. In 1957, he moved to Peru where he worked as an advertising photographer for the weekly Caretas and the cultural magazine Fanal. There, he met numerous personalities of the great Latin American literary boom such as Mario Vargas Llosa, Jorge Luis Borges, and Sebastián Salazar Bondy. Pazo
A pazo is a type of Galician traditional house. Similar to a manor house, pazos are usually located in the countryside, as former residences of important people in the community (formerly of kings and nobility). They were of crucial importance in the 17th to 19th centuries, related to rural and monastic architecture and the system of feudal organization, and they constituted a type of local management unit around which the life of the villagers revolved. Over time they become the social symbol and refuge of the noble class, which Otero Pedrayo portrayed in his novels in early 20th century. The pazo, as a traditional civil architectural structure, had associated a social network: the servants of the nobleman and the tributaries of the domain, who themselves came to live on the grounds of the pazo (mostly the former).
