Castle Donington is a market town and civil parish in Leicestershire, England, on the edge of the National Forest and close to East Midlands Airport. Etymology The name 'Donington' means 'farm/settlement connected with Dunna'. Another suggestion is that it could means 'farm/settlement at the hill place'. History King's Mill, the nearby crossing on the River Trent, is mentioned in a charter issued by Æthelred the Unready in 1009 regarding the boundaries of Weston-on-Trent. ''Dunintune'' or ''Dunitone'' is mentioned twice in the Domesday Book of 1086 as having land belonging to Countess Ælfgifu and land assigned to Earl Hugh. It is called ''Castoldonyngtoin'' in a duchy of Lancaster warrant of 1484. In 1278, King Edward I granted a charter for a weekly market and an annual Wakes Fair. Lace is a delicate fabric made of yarn or thread in an open weblike pattern, made by machine or by hand. Generally, lace is split into two main categories, needlelace and bobbin lace, although there are other types of lace, such as knitted or crocheted lace. Castle Donington Power Station
Castle Donington Power Station was a coal-fired power station situated on the River Trent near Castle Donington, Leicestershire, south-east of Derby. Construction began in 1951, and the station opened in 1958. History The station had six 100 megawatt turbo-generators manufactured by Metropolitan-Vickers and boilers by Babcock & Wilcox. The boilers operated on pulverised coal and delivered 630 kg/s of steam at 103.4 bar and 566 °C. Station cooling was by river water and four cooling towers. Castle Donington was one of the CEGB's twenty steam power stations with the highest thermal efficiency; in 1963–4 the thermal efficiency was 32.30 per cent, 31.57 per cent in 1964–5, and 31.45 per cent in 1965–6. Lockington, Leicestershire
Lockington is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Lockington-Hemington, in the North West Leicestershire district of Leicestershire, England. The village is close to the Derbyshire border. Although there is not a rail station in the village, East Midlands Parkway opened nearby in 2008 at Ratcliffe-on-Soar which provides links to the Midland Main Line. Lockington Hall in the village was the home of a branch of the Curzon family. In 1904 Henry Curzon of Lockington Hall was High Sheriff of Derbyshire. In 1994 a hoard of Bronze Age items was discovered locally. The hoard consisted of the shards of two Beaker style pots, a copper based alloy dagger and two embossed gold-sheet armlets. These 4,000-year-old finds are now in the British Museum. Hemington, Leicestershire
Hemington is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Lockington-Hemington, in the North West Leicestershire district of Leicestershire, England. In 1931 the parish had a population of 298. In 1790, the nearby Harrington Bridge was built to create a crossing of the River Trent. The new bridge was a toll bridge and everyone except locals living in Hemington or Sawley (in Derbyshire) were required to pay the toll. Hemington was historically a township and chapelry in the parish of Lockington. It became a separate civil parish in 1866. On 1 April 1936, the parish was abolished and merged with Lockington, which was renamed Lockington Hemington in 1938. Gravel quarrying at Hemington during the 1990s led to the discovery of three sets of remains from successive medieval bridges across the Trent. Kegworth () is a large village and civil parish in the North West Leicestershire district of Leicestershire, in the East Midlands region, England. It forms part of the border with Nottinghamshire and is situated 6 miles north of Loughborough, 12 miles southwest of Nottingham, 12.5 miles southeast of Derby and 17 miles north of Leicester. The population of Kegworth census was 3,601.
