Saint Donatus of Arezzo ( it, San Donato di Arezzo) is the patron saint of Arezzo, and considered a bishop of the city. A ''Passio'' of Donatus' life was written by a bishop of Arezzo, Severinus; it is of questionable historicity. He calls Donatus a martyr, though Donatus is described as a bishop and confessor of the faith in ancient sources rather than as a martyr. An early hagiography of Donatus was already known to Gregory the Great. According to tradition, Donatus was martyred on August 7, 362 during the reign of Julian the Apostate and was a native of Nicomedia. Legend According to Severinus’ account, as a child Donatus came to Rome with his family from Nicomedia. Castelvecchio Subequo (also Subrequo and Subrego; la, Superaequum, ) is a '' comune'' and town in the province of L'Aquila in the Abruzzo region, central Italy, at the feet on Mount Sirente. History Ancient Superaequum was a town of the Paeligni, one of the three which possessed municipal rights, and among which the territory of that people was divided. Goriano Sicoli
Goriano Sicoli is a ''comune'' and town in the Province of L'Aquila in the Abruzzo region of Italy. Goriano is a medieval town of about 600 people (2013). The town, which sits on top of a mountain in southeast Abruzzo (about an hour and a half east of Rome and near the Adriatic coast town of Pescara), was made somewhat famous by M. C. Escher in his print of the town which hangs in the National Gallery of Art in Washington.
