Caspar Fincke
Caspar Fincke (1584 – 9 February 1655) was a Bohemian-Danish court smith during the reigns of Christian IV and Frederick III. He has created some of the finest decorative metalwork for some of the most prominent buildings of the time, including Frederiksborg Castle, Kronborg Castle Christian IV's Chapel in Roskilde Cathedral and a number of churches around the country. Early life and education Fincke was born, Bohemia. He came to Denmark in an early age. He was trained as a smith before moving to Denmark. Career In 1610, he was employed at Kronborg Rifle Factory. In 1612, he was admitted to Helsingør Smiths Guild. His workshop was located at the corner of Sankt Annagade and Kongensgade. The latter street was for a while known as Caspar Finckes Stræde. In c. 1615, he created some of the decorative wrought iron work for Frederiksborg Castle. By 161818, he had already created his elaborate wrought iron gate for Christian IV's Chapel in Roskilde Cathedral. It features the ... The Round Tower ( Danish: Rundetårn) is a 17th-century tower in Copenhagen, Denmark, one of the many architectural projects of Christian IV of Denmark. Copenhagen Castle
Copenhagen Castle ( da, Københavns Slot) was a castle on the islet of Slotsholmen in central Copenhagen, Denmark. It was built in the late 14th century and was located at the site of the current Christiansborg Palace. History In 1167, Bishop Absalon (c. 1128–1201) founded a fortress on the islet of Slotsholmen in the harbour of Copenhagen. It consisted of a courtyard with several buildings and surrounded by a wall for protection. During the years after the demolition of Bishop Absalon's Castle by the Hansa League in 1369, the ruins on the island were covered with earthworks, on which the new stronghold, Copenhagen Castle, was built. In 1343 King Valdemar Atterdag took over Absalon's castle, but upon his death in 1375 the right to the property returned to the Diocese of Roskilde. History The first mill on the site was built in 1576, but it was only linked to weapons production from 1601, when the gun foundry was built nearby. It was used to power the Kronborg weapons factory. It then produced weapons until 1870, peaking in the 18th century, when the factory employed 200 men and produced 6000 guns a year.
