Casa Vilaplana
The Casa Vilaplana ''(''Vilaplana house'')'' is a private building at 8 Joan Cantó street in the city center of Alcoy (Province of Alicante, Alicante), Valencian Community, Spain. Building The building was designed by the Valencian architect Vicente Pascual Pastor in 1906. It is an example of Valencian Art Nouveau architecture of the early twentieth century. It was commissioned by Enrique Vilaplana Juliá, president of the Alcoy's Savings bank, for his reivate residence. In the proximities it got up with posteriority realized by the same architect, the headquarters of the banking entity. The entire facade is made of masonry with a very singular design. Alcoy
Alcoy ( ca-valencia, Alcoi) is an industrial and university city, region and municipality located in the Valencian Community, Spain. The Serpis river crosses the municipal boundary of Alcoy. The local authority reported a population of 61,135 residents in 2018. History The first traces of human presence in the area date to c. 60,000 years ago, when Neanderthal hunters settled here, in a site now called El Salt. A site with rock paintings, dating to c. 10,000/6,500 years ago, has been discovered near la Sarga. From around the mid-3rd millennium BC people started to move from the caves to the plain where cereals were grown, while mountain fortifications were erected (''Mola Alta de Serelles'', ''Mas del Corral'', ''Mas de Menente'', ''El Puig''). Vicente Pascual Pastor
Vicente Juan Pascual Pastor (Alcoy, June 3, 1865 – Alcoy, February 2, 1941) was a spanish architect, one of the main architects of the Art Nouveau in Alcoy and the Valencian Art Nouveau. Biography Vicente Pascual Pastor was formed in the Barcelona School of Architecture and again in his natal city, in 1891 he becomes municipal architect of Alcoy. He alternates this work with the teaching in the School of Arts and Alcoy's Trades, of which he will be the director in 1903. Between 1909 and 1913 he becomes mayor of the Alcoy town hall. As a mayor he stimulated the construction of houses for workers in modern and healthy conditions. Inside the social and industrial life of the city, he was present in Alcoy's Savings Bank and in the institution Alcoy's Industrial Circle. He married in 1916 with Elena Perez, who had descent. Valencian Art Nouveau
Valencian Art Nouveau ( es, modernismo valenciano, ca-valencia, modernisme valencià), is the historiographic denomination given to an art and literature movement associated with the Art Nouveau in the Valencian Community, in Spain. Its main form of expression was in architecture, but many other arts were involved (painting, sculpture, etc.), and especially the design and the decorative arts (cabinetmaking, carpentry, forged iron, ceramic tiles, ceramics, etc.), which were particularly important, especially in their role as support to architecture. Although Art Nouveau was part of a general trend that emerged in Europe around the turn of the 20th century, in the Valencian Community the trend acquired its own unique personality in the context of spectacular urban and industrial development.
