Casa Grau Naval Museum
The Casa Grau Naval Museum () is a house museum located in the first floor of the house where Miguel Grau and his family lived for 12 years, at Jirón Huancavelica 170, part of the historic centre of Lima, Peru. History The 18th-century building with a prominent balcony was originally inhabited by Peruvian war hero Miguel Grau along with his wife Dolores Cabero Núñez and their children between 1867 and 1879. Grau and his family inhabited the second floor, while his sister, María Dolores Ruperta Grau, inhabited the first. After Grau's death, his sister's family took care of his ten children, with the exception of her husband, colonel Manuel Gómez, who was killed in action during the battle of Miraflores. In 1984, the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru ceded the building's second floor and the museum was inaugurated on July 27 of the same year. Jirón Huancavelica
Jirón Huancavelica is a major street in the Damero de Pizarro, located in the historic centre of Lima, Peru. The street starts at its intersection with the Jirón de la Unión and continues until it reaches Jirón Ramón Cárcano. History The road that today constitutes the street was laid by Francisco Pizarro when he founded the city of Lima on 18 January 1535. Since the end of the 16th century, a ''Corral de comedias'' existed on the street. In 1615, the first venue was built, which was destroyed by an earthquake in 1746. Since then, the venue has undergone several renovations and is now known as the Teatro Segura, Segura Theatre. Battle Of Miraflores
The Battle of Miraflores occurred on January 15, 1881 in the Miraflores District of Lima, Peru. It was an important battle during the War of the Pacific that was fought between Chile and the forces of Peru. The Chilean army led by Gen. Manuel Baquedano defeated the army commanded by Nicolás de Piérola guarding the second defensive line of the Peruvian capital city. Two days later, Lima, the capital city of Peru was occupied by Chilean troops. Gen. Baquedano's forces marched into Lima triumphant, while Peru's president and his officers fled into the interior, leaving the country without any government. Even after the fall of Lima, the war continued between the occupation army and the troops of Andres Caceres for another three years. Paita is a city in northwestern Peru. It is the capital of the Paita Province which is in the Piura Region. It is a leading seaport in the region. Paita is located 1,089 km northwest of the country's capital Lima, and 57 km northwest of the regional capital of Piura. Killed in action (KIA) is a casualty classification generally used by militaries to describe the deaths of their personnel at the hands of enemy or hostile forces at the moment of action. The United States Department of Defense, for example, says that those declared KIA did not need to have fired their weapons, but only to have been killed due to hostile attack. KIAs include those killed by friendly fire during combat, but not from incidents such as accidental vehicle crashes, murder, or other non-hostile events or terrorism.
