Cartside Football Club was a association football, football club based in Kilbarchan, near Johnstone, Renfrewshire, in Scotland. History The club was one of four senior clubs in the area formed in 1878, along with Johnstone F.C., Johnstone Rovers F.C., Johnstone Rovers, and Johnstone Athletic F.C., Johnstone Athletic. The club entered the Scottish Cup for the first time in 1879–80 Scottish Cup, 1879–80, losing 5–0 in the second round to Kennishead F.C., Kennishead after a first round bye. Cartside gained a revenge the 1880–81 Scottish Cup, following season, with a 6–2 win, albeit by this time Kennishead had been denuded by the more established Thornliebank F.C., Thornliebank side which had taken most of its forward line. Hurlford (Scottish Gaelic: ''Baile Àtha Cliath'') is a village in East Ayrshire, Scotland. It has a population of 4,968. Hurlford's former names include Whirlford and Hurdleford. The village was named Whirlford as a result of a ford crossing the River Irvine east of Hurlford Cross, near Shawhill. Pollok ( gd, Pollag, lit=a pool, sco, Powk) is a large housing estate on the south-western side of the city of Glasgow, Scotland. The estate was built either side of World War II to house families from the overcrowded inner city. Housing 30,000 at its peak, its population has since declined due to the replacement of substandard housing with lower-density accommodation. The 1881–82 Scottish Cup – officially the Scottish Football Association Challenge Cup – was the ninth season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition. A total of 147 teams entered the competition, five more than the previous record set in 1879–80. For the second season in a row, defending champions Queen's Park played Dumbarton in the final. After the original match finished in a 2–2 draw on 18 March 1882, Queen's Park won the trophy for a sixth time with a 4–1 win in the replay 1 April 1882. Calendar As with the previous competitions, the eighth edition of the Scottish Cup took on the format of a traditional knockout tournament. Kilbarchan F
Kilbarchan ( gd, Cill Bhearchain) is a village and civil parish in central Renfrewshire, in the west central Lowlands of Scotland. The village's name means "cell (chapel) of St. Barchan". It is known for its former weaving industry. History The village was once one of many weaving villages, and at one time there were 800 handlooms in the village. The weavers were active in the Radical movement which sought parliamentary reform, and Kilbarchan played a part in the agitation of the so-called Radical War of 1820. One cottage named the "Weavers Cottage" built in 1723 has been conserved by the National Trust for Scotland with weaving still in operation, and guides demonstrate handloom weaving to visitors. Kilbarchan was the birthplace of Mary Barbour, the Scottish political activist who led the Glasgow rent strike of 1915 and later became Glasgow's first woman councillor. Yoker ( gd, An Eochair) is an area of Glasgow, Scotland, on the northern bank of the Clyde east of Clydebank, west of the city centre. From the fourteenth century, the Renfrew Ferry has linked Yoker with Renfrew on the south bank. Although shipbuilding has declined, the nearby Yarrows shipyard, now owned by BAE Systems, is still in operation. The name is an Anglicisation of the Scottish Gaelic ''Eochair'' meaning a river bank. Motor vehicles and tramcars were also manufactured in Yoker, which is now an operations centre for the North Clyde Line, part of Glasgow's suburban rail network.
