Cartoone (album)
''Cartoone'' was the debut album by the Scottish group Cartoone. The album is notable for featuring Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin as guest artist. The album has an inside cover which contains the full lyrics of the songs on the right and the following note from June Harris: "There's a new kind of musical excitement, and it's coming from this remarkable album by four boys from England (formerly Scotland) called Cartoone, more specifically Derek Creigan, Mike Allison, Charles Mo Trowers and Chick E. Coffils. Cartoone
Cartoone were a Scottish band formed in 1967. Their debut album featured Jimmy Page as guest musician. History Cartoone were formed in 1967 from a band called The Chevlons. They toured all over Scotland in support of other acts such as the Tremeloes, the Merseybeats and the Hollies. In 1968, the band moved to London in hope of landing a recording contract. Through Lulu they contacted songwriter Mark London (husband of Lulu's manager Marion Massey) and showed him some of the songs they had written. London was impressed with the band and their songs and took them into a recording studio to record four songs with just acoustic guitars. London then took those songs to Ahmet Ertegün and Jerry Wexler of Atlantic Records, who subsequently signed Cartoone to a two-album deal. They were the first British rock band to sign with Atlantic, predating Led Zeppelin by several months. Psychedelic Pop
Psychedelic pop (or acid pop) is pop music that contains musical characteristics associated with psychedelic music. Developing in the late 1960s, elements included "trippy" features such as fuzz guitars, tape manipulation, backwards recording, sitars, and Beach Boys-style harmonies, wedded to melodic songs with tight song structures. The style lasted into the early 1970s. It has seen revivals in subsequent decades by neo-psychedelic artists. Characteristics According to AllMusic, psychedelic pop was not too "freaky", but also not very " bubblegum" either. It appropriated the effects associated with straight psychedelic music, applying their innovations to concise pop songs. The music was occasionally confined to the studio, but there existed more organic exceptions whose psychedelia was bright and melodic. Atlantic Recording Corporation (simply known as Atlantic Records) is an American record label founded in October 1947 by Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson. Over its first 20 years of operation, Atlantic earned a reputation as one of the most important American labels, specializing in jazz, R&B, and soul by Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Wilson Pickett, Sam and Dave, Ruth Brown and Otis Redding. Its position was greatly improved by its distribution deal with Stax. AllMusic (previously known as All-Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Initiated in 1991, the database was first made available on the Internet in 1994. AllMusic is owned by RhythmOne. James Patrick Page (born 9 January 1944) is an English musician who achieved international success as the guitarist and founder of the Rock music, rock band Led Zeppelin. Page is prolific in creating guitar riffs. His style involves various alternative guitar tunings and melodic solos, coupled with aggressive, distorted guitar tones. It is also characterized by his folk and eastern-influenced acoustic work. He is also noted for occasionally playing his guitar with a cello bow to create a droning sound texture to the music. The compact disc (CD) is a digital optical disc data storage format that was co-developed by Philips and Sony to store and play digital audio recordings. In August 1982, the first compact disc was manufactured. It was then released in October 1982 in Japan and branded as '' Digital Audio Compact Disc''. The format was later adapted (as CD-ROM) for general-purpose data storage. Leslie Harvey
Leslie Cameron Harvey (13 September 1944 – 3 May 1972) was a Scottish guitarist in several bands of the late 1960s and early 1970s, most notably Stone the Crows. He was the brother of Alex Harvey. Biography Harvey was born in Govan, Glasgow. In the 1960s, he was asked to join the Animals by Alan Price but chose to stay with his brother in the Alex Harvey Soul Band. He later joined the Blues Council, another Scottish band. The Blues Council made one record, ''Baby Don't Look Down''. In March 1965, their tour van crashed, killing vocalist Fraser Calder and bassist James Giffen, and the rest of the band went their separate ways.
