Cartoon Network Shorts Department
''Cartoon Network Shorts Department'' is the channel's artist development program for animated pilots that are created at Cartoon Network Studios. It was inaugurated and started in 2013 through online uploading of six titles, on May 21 for a short period, which three of them has been greenlit for a TV series at the start of the program. The short ''Mushroom and the Forest of the World'' was nominated for an Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Format Children's Program. Cartoon Network Studios is an American animation studio owned by the Warner Bros. Television Studios division of Warner Bros., a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery. The studio is the production arm of Cartoon Network, and started operating on October 21, 1994, as a division of Hanna-Barbera until the latter was absorbed into Warner Bros. Animation in 2001. The Fungies!
''The Fungies!'' is an American animated comedy television series created by Stephen P. Neary for HBO Max. The first part of the first season premiered on August 20, 2020, on HBO Max, followed by the second part of the season on October 8, 2020. The series made its linear premiere on Cartoon Network on June 4, 2021. Premise ''The Fungies!'' is set in a prehistoric and mythological metropolis of Fungietown in a strange prehistoric world inhabited by some fungi-looking creatures and occasional dinosaurs. The LA Shorts International Film Festival (LA Shorts) founded by Robert Arentz in 1997 is one of the largest international short film festivals in the world with more than 300 films screening annually. In order to qualify for a short film award at the annual Academy Awards (the Oscars) you must meet the Rules and Eligibility criteria, which includes qualification through awards at qualifying festivals. LA Shorts is the only film festival with 7 award categories recognized by the Academy Awards. Now in its 26th year, LA Shorts is the longest-running short film festival in Los Angeles. Patrick Nolen McHale (born November 17, 1983) is an American animator, screenwriter, songwriter, and director. Known for his work in animation, he served as writer, creative director and storyboard artist for both the television series ''Adventure Time'' from 2010 to 2017, and the miniseries ''Over the Garden Wall'' in 2014, the latter of which he also created; he also co-wrote the 2022 film ''Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio''. Rebecca Rea Sugar (born July 9, 1987) is an American animator and screenwriter. She is best known for being the creator of the Cartoon Network series '' Steven Universe'', making her the first non-binary person to independently create a series for the network. Until 2013, Sugar was a writer and storyboard artist on the animated television series ''Adventure Time''. Her work on the two series has earned her seven Primetime Emmy Award nominations.
