Carte Blanche (TV Series)
''Carte Blanche'' is a South African investigative journalism television series that airs on television network M-Net Sundays at night. It premiered in 1988 and focuses on investigation into corruption, consumer issues and current events. History ''Carte Blanche'' began its broadcast in 1988, anchored by Derek Watts and Ruda Landman. Landman left the show in 2007; the same year Bongani Bingwa became a presenter. In January 2010, two spinoff series, ''Carte Blanche Medical'' and ''Carte Blanche Consumer'', began. ''Carte Blanche Medical'' premiered on 18 January 2010 and was anchored by Bongani Bingwa, while ''Carte Blanche Consumer'', premiering on 24 January 2010, was anchored by Devi Sankaree Govender. Both series, which ran for four seasons, were cancelled in 2011. Shortly thereafter, on 24 January 2011, ''Carte Blanche Extra'' launched, but was cancelled after only airing 10 episodes. M-Net
M-Net (an abbreviation of Electronic Media Network) is a South African pay television channel established by Naspers in 1986. The channel broadcasts both local and international programming, including general entertainment, children's series, sport and movies. While the TV signal is generally encrypted, M-Net showed some programmes 'free to air' in its "Open Time" slot between 5 p.m. and 7 pm, until the slot closed on 1 April 2007. Derek Watts
Derek Neil Watts (24 November 1948 – 22 August 2023) was a South African investigative reporter and television presenter who worked for ''Carte Blanche'', on M-Net for 35 years from 1988 until 2023. The trial of Oscar Pistorius for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp and several gun-related charges (''The State vs Oscar Pistorius'') in the High Court of South Africa in Pretoria opened on 3 March 2014. Oscar Pistorius, Pistorius was a leading South African runner who won attention as an athlete with a disability competing at a high level, including at multiple Paralympic Games and the 2012 Summer Olympics. Steenkamp, a model, had been Pistorius's girlfriend for three months. In the early morning of Thursday, 14 February 2013, Steenkamp was shot and killed by Pistorius at his Pretoria home. Hartbeespoort Dam (also known as ''Harties'') is an arch type dam situated in the North West (South African province), North West Province of South Africa. It lies in a valley to the south of the Magaliesberg mountain range and north of the Witwatersberg mountain range, about 35 kilometres north west of Johannesburg and 20 kilometres west of Pretoria. The name of the dam means "dam at the gorge of the hartebeest" (a species of antelope) in Afrikaans language, Afrikaans. This "poort" in the Magaliesberg was a popular spot for hunters, where they cornered and shot the hartebeest. M-Net Literary Awards
M-Net Literary Awards were a group of South African literary awards, awarded from 1991 to 2013. They were established and sponsored by M-Net (Electronic Media Network), a South African television station. The award was suspended indefinitely after the 2013 season. In the awards' fourth year, an award for indigenous African languages was inaugurated, alongside the original English and Afrikaans awards, to encourage writing in indigenous languages. In subsequent years there were six language categories, covering all eleven official South African languages: English; Afrikaans; Nguni ( Zulu, Xhosa, Ndebele, and Swati); SeSotho (Sotho, Pedi, and Tswana); TshiVenda; and SeTsonga.
