	East Carroll Township, Cambria County, Pennsylvania East Carroll Township is a township in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,654 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Johnstown, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography The township is located in north-central Cambria County at 40.57° N by 78.70° W and is approximately north of Ebensburg, the county seat, and west-northwest of the city of Altoona. The township is bordered on the east by Chest Creek, a northward-flowing tributary of the West Branch Susquehanna River. The borough of Carrolltown borders part of the township on the west, and Patton touches the northeastern corner of the township. U.S. Route 219 crosses the township from north to south, connecting Carrolltown with Ebensburg. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , all land. picture info	Carroll Group The Carroll Group was a family-owned group of businesses formed in the early twentieth century that expanded rapidly in the 1980s when it was taken over by Gerald Carroll, grandson of the founder. At that time it was one of the largest private businesses in Britain, but it collapsed in the early 1990s under the weight of its debt and amid accusations of fraud. Gerald Carroll has since campaigned to have the collapse of the group recognised as a fraud but without apparent success. Origins The Carroll Group was a three generation family-owned private business founded by John E. "Jock" Carroll who was descended from the Irish O'Carroll clan. Jock may have had a role in the purchase by the Ford Motor Company in 1924 of the land in Essex on which the company built its Ford Dagenham, Dagenham car plant. 	Carroll's P. J. Carroll & Company Limited, often called Carroll's, is an Irish manufacturing company of tobacco. Having been established in 1824, P.J. Carroll is the oldest tobacco manufacturer in the country, and currently a subsidiary of British American Tobacco. Its cigarette brands were among the best selling in Ireland in the twentieth century. Its factory was for decades the largest employer in Dundalk. History Patrick James Carroll (b. 1803) completed his apprenticeship as a tobacconist in 1824 and opened a shop in Dundalk, later also manufacturing cigars. He moved to Liverpool in England in the 1850s. His son Vincent Stannus Carroll expanded the firm in the later 19th century. His son James Marmion Carroll moved to a house outside Dundalk. A second factory was opened, in Liverpool, in 1923. The company went public in 1934. A purpose-built factory opened in 1970.
