Caroma
Caroma (Caroma Dorf) is an Australian designer and distributor of bathroom products. Caroma was established in 1941, by Hungarian-born Charles Rothauser, and since closing its last factory in 2017 now sources all products from third-party overseas manufacturers. Caroma is a subsidiary of GWA International Limited, and introduced the world's first two-button dual flush toilet system. The company self-distributes within Australia and abroad sells through distributors such as Sustainable Solutions International in North America and Sanlamere in the United Kingdom. History The company was established in 1941 with a factory at Norwood, an inner eastern suburb of Adelaide. The company announced its intention to close down manufacturing in Australia on 8 October 2014. The factory at Wetherill Park in Sydney closed in 2014. Fowler Potteries
Fowler Potteries, later R. Fowler Sydney and R. Fowler Limited, was a manufacturer of ceramics in the colony of New South Wales, and in the Commonwealth of Australia, which still exist as the brand name Fowler within Caroma. Fowler is nominally the oldest still existing manufacturer of ceramics in Australia. History Fowler Potteries were founded in 1837 by Enoch Fowler in Parramatta near Sydney, now part of Greater Sydney. In 1848 Fowler moved to Glebe, New South Wales, Glebe, where Fowler made ginger beer bottles och kitchen utensils. Dual Flush Toilet
A dual flush toilet is a variation of the flush toilet that uses two buttons or a handle mechanism to flush different amounts of water. The purpose of this mechanism is to reduce the volume of water used to flush different types of waste. The design takes advantage of the fact that liquid waste requires a lesser amount of water to flush than solid waste; the smaller button is used to dispose of liquid and the larger button for solids. Development The system was developed by Japanese sanitary product manufacturer TOTO in 1960. It was equipped with two levers and built-in hand-washer, and also notable in that it reused the water in the hand-washer for flushing.
