Caroline Stein
Caroline Stein is a German operatic coloratura soprano and an academic voice teacher. She has appeared internationally, including contemporary opera, creating the Angel in Dusapin's ''Faustus, the Last Night'' at the Berlin State Opera. Career Stein took piano and ballet lessons. She studied at the Musikhochschule Köln with Claudio Nicolai from 1983 to 1988. She first joined the ensemble of the Theater Würzburg, and moved to the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden in 1989, where she recorded in 1993 ''Der tapfere Soldat'' by Oscar Straus with the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln conducted by Siegfried Köhler, alongside John Dickie and Johannes Martin Kränzle. ''Le Grand Macabre'' (1974–1977, revised version 1996) is the only opera by Hungarian composer György Ligeti. The opera has two acts, and its libretto—based on the 1934 play ''La balade du grand macabre'' by Michel de Ghelderode—was written by Ligeti in collaboration with , director of the Stockholm puppet theatre. The original libretto was written in German as ''Der grosse Makaber'' but for the first production was translated into Swedish by Meschke under its current title. Simon Rattle
Sir Simon Denis Rattle (born 19 January 1955) is a British-German conductor. He rose to international prominence during the 1980s and 1990s, while music director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (1980–1998). Rattle was principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic from 2002 to 2018. He has been the music director of the London Symphony Orchestra since September 2017. The Bochumer Symphoniker is a German orchestra based in Bochum. Its primary residence is the Anneliese Brost Musikforum Ruhr. History The orchestra was founded in 1918 originally as the Städtisches Orchester Bochum , at the same time as the Bochum Theatre, with the primary purpose to accompany theatrical productions. The orchestra gave its first public concert with conductor Rudolf Schulz-Dornburg, its first ''Generalmusikdirektor'' (GMD), on 20 May 1919. Alban Berg's ''Five Orchestral Songs after Postcards by Peter Altenberg'' (German: ''Fünf Orchesterlieder nach Ansichtskarten von Peter Altenberg''), Op. 4, were composed in 1911 and 1912 for medium voice, or mezzo-soprano. They are considered a true song cycle, unlike his previous two groups of songs, the ''Sieben frühe Lieder'' of 1908 and the ''Vier Gesänge'', Op. 2, of 1910, and they are his first work for orchestra. The Proms
The BBC Proms or Proms, formally named the Henry Wood Promenade Concerts Presented by the BBC, is an eight-week summer season of daily orchestral classical music concerts and other events held annually, predominantly in the Royal Albert Hall in central London.
