Caroline Goode
Caroline Goode Queen's Police Medal, QPM is a British retired police detective, who served for 33 years in the Metropolitan Police in London and in Counter Terrorism Command. She was awarded the Queen's Police Medal in the 2012 New Year Honours for leading the investigation into the murder of Murder of Banaz Mahmod, Banaz Mahmod. She wrote a book about the case which also featured as a TV drama, ''Honour (TV series), Honour'' starring Keeley Hawes. Her work on the case involved convictions of the first ever men extradited from Iraq to the UK. They were jailed for more than 20 years each. She continued to work to train other police officers nationally and internationally to understand Honor-based violence, Honour Based Violence. Queen's Police Medal
The King's Police Medal (KPM) is awarded to police in the United Kingdom for gallantry or distinguished service. It was also formerly awarded within the wider British Empire, including Commonwealth countries, most of which now have their own honours systems. The medal was established on 7 July 1909 as the King's Police Medal (KPM), initially inspired by the need to recognise the gallantry of the police officers involved in the Tottenham Outrage. Renamed the King's Police and Fire Services Medal (KPFSM) in 1940, it was replaced on 19 May 1954 by the Queen's Police Medal (QPM), when a separate Queen's Fire Service Medal was also instituted. The current award was renamed the King's Police Medal following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022 and the accession of King Charles III to the throne of the United Kingdom. Banaz Mahmod (, 16 December 1985 – 24 January 2006) was a 20-year-old Iraqi Kurdish woman who lived in Mitcham, South London, England. She was murdered on the orders of her family in a so-called honour killing because she ended a violent and abusive forced marriage and started a relationship with someone of her own choosing. Her father, uncle and three cousins were later convicted of her murder. Background Family The Mahmods were a strictly traditional Kurdish family from the rural Mirawdale tribal area of Qaladiza in Iraqi Kurdistan. ''Honour'' is a two-part British television drama, depicting the investigation into the real-life disappearance and murder of honour killing victim Banaz Mahmod. Gwyneth Hughes created the screenplay using the first-hand experiences of key figures from the real case including Bekhal Mahmod, Nawzad Gelly and Caroline Goode, who acted as consultant. Nazir Afzal, CPS assistant Chief Crown Prosecutor when Banaz's case was brought to trial, was the production’s legal consultant. Claire Julia Hawes (born 10 February 1976), known professionally as Keeley Hawes, is an English actress.
