Seu Jorge
Jorge Mário da Silva, more commonly known by his stage name Seu Jorge (Seu, Portuguese for "Your"; born June 8, 1970; ), is a Brazilian musical artist, songwriter, and actor. He is considered by many a renewer of Brazilian pop samba. Seu Jorge cites samba schools and American soul singer Stevie Wonder as major musical influences. Jorge is also known for his film roles as Mané Galinha in the 2002 film '' City of God'' and as Pelé dos Santos in the 2004 film '' The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou''. His musical work has received praise from many of his fellow musicians including Beck and David Bowie. Mr Bongo is a British, Brighton based independent record label, independent film and publishing company specialising in world music and art house/world cinema. History Founded in 1989, in Berwick Street, London, the label later moved to Lexington Street and then finally to Poland Street, where they additionally operated a hip-hop record shop, specialising in underground and independent hip-hop. ''Cru'' is a 2004 album by Seu Jorge first released in France on September 21, 2004 by the Parisian independent label Fla-Flu (Favela Chic) with the record company Naïve. This was his second album to be released outside his native Brazil, the first being '' Carolina''. Many of the songs on the album are covers such as "Chatterton", written by Serge Gainsbourg and "Don't" by Leiber & Stoller.
