Carmen River
The Carmen River () is a river in Chihuahua, Mexico that rises to the west of Lake St Martin and drains into Lake Patos (). Like other rivers in north-west Chihuahua, the river disappears at the lake because of the rainfall levels and the arid climate. It can very between being an intermittent stream in the dry season to a full-flowing river in the rainy season. The lake can be almost entirely dried out in some years. The river flows past Villa Ahumada to the east. In prehistoric times, this river alongside the Rio Casas Grandes and Rio Santa Maria to the west formed a river system with a significant population. Several archaeological finds along the river valley and in Lake Patas are indicative of worked turquoise at the time of the Casas Grandes. Laguna de los Patos itself is north of Villa Ahumada, at an elevation of above mean sea level; and the Pan-American Highway runs to its west. Guzmán Basin
The Guzmán Basin is an endorheic basin of northern Mexico and the southwestern United States. It occupies the northwestern portion of Chihuahua in Mexico, and extends into southwestern New Mexico in the United States. Notable rivers of the Guzmán Basin are the Casas Grandes River, which empties into Lake Guzmán, the Santa Maria River, which empties into Lake Santa Maria, the Carmen River, and the Mimbres River of New Mexico. Ahumada is one of the 67 municipalities of Chihuahua, in northern Mexico. The municipal seat lies at Villa Ahumada. The municipality covers an area of 17,131.5 km2. Casas Grandes
Casas Grandes (Spanish for ''Great Houses''; also known as Paquimé) is a prehistoric archaeological site in the northern Mexico, Mexican state of Chihuahua (state), Chihuahua. Construction of the site is attributed to the Mogollon culture. Casas Grandes has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the purview of INAH and a "Pueblos Mágicos, Pueblo Mágico" since 2015. Casas Grandes is one of the largest and most complex Mogollon culture sites in the region. Settlement began after 1130 AD, and the larger buildings developed into multi-storied dwellings after 1350 AD. The community was abandoned approximately in 1450 AD. Endorheic Basin
An endorheic basin ( ; also endoreic basin and endorreic basin) is a drainage basin that normally retains water and allows no outflow to other external bodies of water (e.g. rivers and oceans); instead, the water drainage flows into permanent and seasonal lakes and swamps that equilibrate through evaporation. Endorheic basins are also called closed basins, terminal basins, and internal drainage systems. Endorheic regions contrast with open lakes (exorheic regions), where surface waters eventually drain into the ocean. In general, water basins with subsurface outflows that lead to the ocean are not considered endorheic; but cryptorheic.
