Carlyle W. Begay is a Diné-American politician. A member of the Republican Party, he represented the seventh district in the Arizona State Senate which is the largest Legislative State District in the Continental United States. Early life Begay is Navajo and was born on the Navajo Nation and he is ''Tó’tsohnii'' (Big Water), born for ''Kinyaa’áanii'' (Towering House) clans. His maternal grandparents are ''Tl'izi lani'' (Many Goats clan). His paternal grandparents are also of the ''Tl'izi lani'' (Many Goats clan). Begay is a lifetime resident of Arizona and grew up on the Navajo Nation near Black Mesa and was raised under the teachings of his ancestry, instilling in him the importance of remembering the story of his people and carrying it on to his descendants. Arizona's 7th Legislative District
Arizona's 7th Legislative District is one of 30 in the state, consisting of sections of Coconino County, Gila County, Navajo County, and Pinal County. As of 2023, there are 95 precincts in the district, with a total registered voter population of 154,195. The district has an overall population of 240,214. Sharon E. Clahchischilliage (born 1947/1948) (Navajo Nation) is an American politician and a former Republican member of the New Mexico House of Representatives, representing District 4 from 2013–2018. She was elected to the New Mexico Public Education Commission from District 5 in 2022. Early life and education Clahchischilliage was born into a Navajo family, the daughter of Eleanor and Herb Clah in Farmington, New Mexico, and is a member of the Navajo Nation.
