Carlton Bailey
Carlton Wilson Bailey (born December 15, 1964) is an American former professional american football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for the Buffalo Bills, New York Giants, and Carolina Panthers. He played college football at the University of North Carolina and was drafted in the ninth round of the 1988 NFL draft. Perhaps his most memorable play came in the third quarter of the AFC Championship Game on January 12, 1992, between the Bills and Denver Broncos. He intercepted a John Elway pass that had been deflected by teammate Jeff Wright and returned it 11 yards for the game's first touchdown. The Bills went on to win, 10–7, to reach Super Bowl XXVI. Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and typically line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and so back up the defensive linemen. They play closer to the line of scrimmage than the defensive backs (secondary). As such, linebackers play a hybrid role and are often the most versatile players on the defensive side of the ball; they can be asked to play roles similar to either a defensive lineman (such as stopping the runner on a running play) or a defensive back (such as dropping back into pass coverage). The NFL draft, officially known as the Annual Player Selection Meeting, is an annual event which serves as the most common source of player recruitment in the National Football League.
