Carlos Torres Vila (musician)
Carlos Torres Vila (9 November 1946 in Los Toldos, Buenos Aires – 16 July 2010 in San Miguel, Buenos Aires) was an Argentine folk singer. He was a stand-out in the 1969 Baradero festival and the 1970 Cosquín Festival. He was one of the first soloists to introduce the so-called "romantic folk" (''folclore romántico''), a blend of traditional Argentine music and melodic songs. Through this approach, he broke several sales records in the 1970s. In 1977, he decided to fully dedicate himself to melodic music, as evidenced by his albums "Consagración", "Que Romántico", and "Me vas a echar de menos". In 1982, his LP "El retorno de Carlos Torres Vila" marks his return to his familiar style, a style he would never abandon. Although he had a hiatus from recording in the 1990s, he continued performing across the country. Starting in 2000, he returned to recording regularly, releasing six albums throughout the decade. Los Toldos (Sometimes referred to as General Viamonte) is a small town in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, situated in General Viamonte Partido, which developed around a station of the same name on the Buenos Aires Western Railway. San Miguel, Buenos Aires
San Miguel is a city in the northwest region of Greater Buenos Aires, 30 km from the City of Buenos Aires. San Miguel is the county seat of San Miguel Partido, and has been a part of Greater Buenos Aires since the early 2000s. The number of inhabitants was 157,532 according to the 2001 census. Part of a vast estancia estate owned by General Ángel Pacheco, San Miguel was founded as ''San José del Pilar'' by a French Argentine agronomist, Adolfo Sourdeaux, on May 18, 1864. Part of Pilar Partido initially, the town was renamed San Miguel after the former district was subdivided shortly afterward. A Buenos Aires-Pacific Railway line was built along the town in 1870, and its first schools were opened at that time as part of President Domingo Sarmiento's program for education in Argentina. Cosquín Festival
The Cosquín Folk Festival is one of the most important folk music festivals of Argentina, and most important in Latin America. It lasts nine days and takes place in the second half of January in the city of Cosquín, a scenic, Punilla Valley location in Córdoba Province. The tradition used to refer to ''nine moons of Cosquín.'' History The first festival was held in Cosquín between 21 and 29 January 1961. The initiative came from a group of city residents, led by Dr. Reinaldo Wisner and Dr. Alejandro Guinder, who decided to organize a folklore music and culture show during the summer holidays, in order to attract tourism.
