Carlos Sadir
Carlos Alberto Sadir (born 24 September 1958) is an Argentine public accountant and politician. He is currently governor of Jujuy Province, since 10 December 2023. He belongs to the Radical Civic Union (UCR). Sadir previously served as Minister of the Treasury and Finances of Jujuy, under Governor Gerardo Morales. Early life Sadir was born on 24 September 1958, in San Salvador de Jujuy, into a family of businesspeople; his parents (of Syrian-Lebanese descent) sold gaucho attire and owned a restaurant in El Carmen, where Sadir worked as a youth. He graduated as a public accountant from the National University of Jujuy in 1983. He became politically active at his university, joining Franja Morada, the student wing of the Radical Civic Union (UCR). 2023 Jujuy Protests
A series of protests against the government of the Jujuy Province in Argentina started in June 2023, sparked by the amendment of the constitution of Jujuy. The demonstrators temporarily stormed into the Jujuy legislature and burned part of it. Context The events took place a few months before the 2023 Argentine general election and a short time after the local elections in Jujuy. Governor Gerardo Morales, unable to run for a new term, was still popular and the election was won by his minister Carlos Sadir. The elections also voted in a constituent assembly to amend the constitution of Jujuy. Two articles proved controversial: one article forbids traffic obstruction, and the second regulates the rights of indigenous peoples. Alejandro Vilca
Alejandro Ariel Vilca (born 5 July 1976) is an Argentine activist, garbage worker, trade unionist and politician, active in the Socialist Workers' Party (PTS). A member of the indigenous Qulla people, Vilca was elected to the provincial legislature of Jujuy Province in 2017 on the Workers' Left Front (FIT) list, which won 18% of the vote. In 2021, he was elected to the National Chamber of Deputies. Early life Vilca was born on 5 July 1976 in San Salvador de Jujuy, capital of Jujuy Province. The Workers' Left Front – Unity ( es, Frente de Izquierda y de los Trabajadores – Unidad, FIT-U) is an alliance of initially three Trotskyist parties in Argentina formed to fight a number of elections in 2011, announced at a press conference in April that year. They are the Workers' Party (PO), the Socialist Workers' Party (PTS), and Socialist Left (IS). In 2019, the Workers' Socialist Movement (MST) joined the alliance. These parties had stood separately at the Argentine elections of 2007 and 2009, the PO on its own, and the PTS and IS in an alliance with the Movement for Socialism (MAS).
