Carlos Rubira Infante
Carlos Aurelio Rubira Infante (16 September 1921 – 14 September 2018) was an Ecuadorian singer and songwriter of pasillo and pasacalle music. He began performing his songs on the radio station El Telégrafo for a program called "La hora agrícola". He then formed the group "Vera Santos-Rubira". Career He also formed the group "Los Porteños" with the singer Olimpo Cardenas. Until then Cardenas had been a tango singer but asked Rubira to teach him to sing pasillo music. He also influenced the singers Fresia Saavedra, Pepe and Julio Jaramillo, among others. As teenagers, he and Julio Jaramillo once worked together at a shoe store, and after work he would invite Jaramillo over to teach him some songs. His friends Olimpo Cardenas and Julio Jaramillo went on to international fame singing the type of music Rubira taught them. Pasillo
Pasillo ( en, little step, hallway or aisle) is a Colombian, genre of music extremely popular in the territories that composed the 19th century Viceroyalty of New Granada: Born in the Colombian Andes during the independence wars, it spread to other areas; especially Ecuador (where it is considered the national musical style) and, to a lesser extent, the mountainous regions of Venezuela and Panama. Venezuelans refer to this style of music as "''vals''" (Spanish for "Waltz"). Today, it has incorporated more European features of classical dance, such as Viennese waltz in Colombia and features of sanjuanito and yaraví in Ecuador. As it spread during the Gran Colombia period, pasillo also absorbed the individual characteristics of isolated villages. It is usually of a serious character and is often based on a bass-ostinato and written in triple metre. Julio Alfredo Jaramillo Laurido (October 1, 1935 – February 9, 1978) was a notable Ecuadorian singer and recording artist who performed throughout Latin America, achieving great fame for his renditions of boleros, valses, pasillos, tangos, and rancheras. Having recorded more than 2,200 songs throughout his career, his most famous song was and is "Nuestro Juramento" well known throughout all South America. He is considered to be one of the most beloved singers of Ecuador, even before Gerardo Moran, Maximo Escaleras, and many other talents. Premio Eugenio Espejo
The ''Premio Nacional Eugenio Espejo'' ("Eugenio Espejo National Award") is the national prize of the nation of Ecuador. Decrees 677 and 699 (of August 1975 and September 1997, respectively) established the prize, which is conferred by the President of Ecuador. The Award is bestowed every other year. Finalists for receiving the award are put on a short list by the National Council of Culture, and grouped into five categories: *Cultural Promotion *Arts *Literature *Science *Public or Private Institutions. Latin Songwriters Hall Of Fame
The Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame (LSHOF) ( es, El Pabellón De La Fama De Los Compositores Latinos) is an honor by its board of directors to "educate, preserve, honor and celebrate the legacy of the greatest Latin songwriters from all over the world and their music in every genre." The LSHOF recognizes songwriters from Spanish and Portuguese-speaking regions internationally. It was founded by songwriters Rudy Pérez and Desmond Child and the inaugural award ceremony began in 2013.
