Carlos PrÃo Socarrás
Carlos Manuel PrÃo Socarrás (; July 14, 1903 – April 5, 1977) was a Cuban politician. He served as the President of Cuba from 1948 until he was deposed by a military coup led by Fulgencio Batista on March 10, 1952, three months before new elections were to be held. He was the first president of Cuba to be born in an independent Cuba and the last to gain his post through universal, contested elections. He went into exile in the United States, where he lived for 25 years before dying by suicide at age 73. Governance In 1940, PrÃo was elected senator of Pinar del RÃo Province. Alfredo Joaquin González Durán (born 16 August 1936) is a Cuban-born lawyer and an advocate for dialogue as a way to bring regime change in Cuba. His views are considered controversial in some parts of the Cuban exile community in Miami. Early life Duran was born in Havana in 1936, the son of Ana Durán. In 1941, Duran's mother married Anselmo Alliegro y Milá, a Cuban senator and government minister. It was Alliegro, then president of the Senate, who accepted Fulgencio Batista's resignation on Dec. 31, 1958, and then took refuge, with his family, in the Chilean Embassy in Havana for three months. After spending two additional months in Chile itself, the family permanently arrived in Miami. The Museum of the Revolution () is located in the Old Havana section of Havana, Cuba, in what was the presidential palace of all Cuban presidents from Mario GarcÃa Menocal to Fulgencio Batista. The building became the Museum of the Revolution during the years following the Cuban Revolution. The palace building was attacked by the Directorio Revolucionario 13 de Marzo in 1957. MarÃa Dolores "Mary" Tarrero-Serrano de Prio (5 October 1924 – 24 September 2010) was a Cuban politician who was the First Lady of Cuba from 1948 to 1952. The Pinar del RÃo Province is one of the 15 provinces of Cuba. It is at the western end of the island of Cuba. The capital and largest city is Pinar del RÃo (191,081 pop. in 2022). Geography The Pinar del RÃo province is Cuba's westernmost province and contains one of Cuba's three main mountain ranges, the Cordillera de Guaniguanico, divided into the easterly Sierra del Rosario and the westerly Sierra de los Órganos.
