Carlos Bruneel
Carlos Bruneel is a Belgian flautist. He has played throughout Europe, America and Japan. He studied at the Conservatory of Antwerp with Jan Van Reeth. In 1982 he carried off the Belgium Tenuto Contest. He continued studying in London with Jonathan Snowdon and took master classes from Aurèle Nicolet and William Bennett (flautist), William Bennett. He has been flute soloist with La Monnaie Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra since 1981 and others like the BRTN Ancient Philharmonic Orchestra, and several chamber orchestras including Prima La Musica and Collegium Instrumentale Brugense. Bruneel is member of the Prometheus Ensemble and of the La Monnaie Wind quintet, Wind Quintet. He plays recitals with pianists as Jan Michiels, Levente Kende or Daniël Blumenthal. Carlos Bruneel has been professor flute at the Brussels Royal Conservatory since 1994. He gives master classes throughout Europe and Japan and often is a jury member for international competitions. William Bennett (flautist)
William Ingham Brooke Bennett (7 February 1936 – 11 May 2022) was a British flautist and teacher. He played in many English orchestras and chamber music ensembles, and as a soloist. He made more than 100 recordings, including chamber music with partners including George Malcolm, Osian Ellis, and Yehudi Menuhin. He premiered flute concertos written for him, by William Mathias, Diana Burrell and Raimundo Pineda. Bennett taught at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg in Germany and the Royal Academy of Music, and held master classes worldwide. Early life and studies William Ingham Brooke Bennett was born in London to parents who were both architects. He boarded at Beltane School until he was 16, starting his school life as a seven-year-old during the Second World War. He started playing the recorder at the age of 8 and the flute at 12. La Monnaie
The Royal Theatre of La Monnaie (, ; , ; both translating as the "Royal Theatre of the Mint") is an opera house in central Brussels, Belgium. The National Opera of Belgium, a federal institution, takes the name of this theatre in which it is housed—La Monnaie in French or De Munt in Dutch—referring both to the building as well as the opera company. As Belgium's leading opera house, it is one of the few cultural institutions to receive financial support from the Federal Government of Belgium. Wind Quintet
A wind quintet, also known as a woodwind quintet, is a group of five wind players (most commonly flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn and bassoon). Unlike the string quartet (of 4 string instruments) with its homogeneous blend of sound color, the instruments in a wind quintet differ from each other considerably in technique, idiom, and timbre. The modern wind quintet sprang from the octet ensemble favored in the court of Joseph II in late 18th century Vienna: two oboes, two clarinets, two (natural) horns, and two bassoons. The influence of Haydn's chamber writing suggested similar possibilities for winds, and advances in the building of these instruments in that period made them more useful in small ensemble settings, leading composers to attempt smaller combinations.
