Carleton Ravens Men's Basketball
The Carleton Ravens men's basketball team represents Carleton University in the Ontario University Athletics conference of U Sports men's basketball. The Ravens have captured 16 W. P. McGee Trophy national championship wins, more than any top division school in Canada or the United States, and are the reigning national champions (2022). In addition, the Ravens have earned the Wilson Cup, awarded to the OUA champions, 12 times: 2003 to 2005, 2008 to 2010, 2012 to 2013, 2015, and 2018 to 2020. Ontario University Athletics
Ontario University Athletics (OUA; french: Sports universitaires de l'Ontario) is a regional membership association for Canadian universities which assists in co-ordinating competition between their university level athletic programs and providing contact information, schedules, results, and releases about those programs and events to the public and the media. This is similar to what would be called a List of college athletic conferences, college athletic conference in the United States. OUA, which covers Ontario, is one of four such bodies that are members of the country's governing body for university athletics, U Sports. U Sports
U Sports (stylized as U SPORTS) is the national sport governing body of university sport in Canada, comprising the majority of degree-granting universities in the country. Its equivalent body for organized sports at colleges in Canada is the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Some institutions are members of both bodies for different sports. Its name until October 20, 2016, was Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS; french: Sport interuniversitaire canadien, SIC, links=no). Tyson Hinz
Tyson Boyd Hinz (born October 12, 1991) is a former Canadian professional basketball player. Hinz played the power forward position, and last played for Mitteldeutscher BC of the German ProA. College career Hinz enjoyed a decorated career at Carleton University, winning four straight CIS championships with the Ravens. In 2011, Hinz was presented with the Mike Moser Memorial Trophy as the CIS Outstanding Player and won the Jack Donohue Trophy (MVP of CIS Championship) twice (2011, 2014). In 2011, Hinz also won the OUA and CIS Male Athlete of the Year award. He received All-Canada First Team honours in 2011, 2012 and 2013 as well as Second Team honors in 2014. Philip Scrubb
Philip Alexander Scrubb (born November 27, 1992) is a Canadian–British professional basketball player for Monbus Obradoiro of the Liga ACB. He is a 6'4½" (1.94 m) tall guard. During his college basketball career, he won five CIS championships with the Carleton University Ravens, before embarking on a professional career. Scrubb is considered one of the greatest players in CIS basketball history. High school career Scrubb played high school basketball at Vancouver College, under the basketball coach Bill Disbrow. College career Scrubb's career is perhaps the most accomplished in the history of Canadian Interuniversity Sport basketball. Thomas Scrubb
Thomas Ryan Scrubb (born September 26, 1991 in Richmond, British Columbia) is a Canadian professional basketball player for Monbus Obradoiro of the Spanish Liga ACB. He played university basketball for the Carleton Ravens. University career After playing at Vancouver College high school, Scrubb enrolled at Carleton University in 2009, and sat out the 2009–10 season. Connor Wood (basketball)
Connor John Wood (born May 29, 1993) is a Canadian professional basketball player. Wood plays the guard position. College career During his college career, he won five straight CIS championships with the Carleton Ravens. Wood was the recipient of the Mike Moser Memorial Trophy as the CIS Outstanding Player in 2016-17 and also earned All-Canada First Team as well as OUA Player of the Year and CIS Tournament All-Star Team honours that year. Lloyd Kanda Pandi (born December 10, 1999) is a Canadian professional basketball player for Darüşşafaka of the Basketbol Süper Ligi (BSL) and the Basketball Champions League (BCL). He played university basketball for Carleton. University career In his debut for Carleton, Pandi had 18 points to help defeat Waterloo 110-54, leading all Carleton starters with 22 minutes played. In his debut season, Pandi started 17 games out of the season's 22 games, eventually becoming a national champion with the Ravens as well as being named the U Sports Rookie of the Year. Free Throw
In basketball, free throws or foul shots are unopposed attempts to score points by shooting from behind the free-throw line (informally known as the foul line or the charity stripe), a line situated at the end of the restricted area. Free throws are generally awarded after a foul on the shooter by the opposing team, analogous to penalty shots in other team sports. A three-point field goal (also 3-pointer, three, or trey) is a field goal in a basketball game made from beyond the three-point line, a designated arc surrounding the basket. In basketball, a field goal is a basket scored on any shot or tap other than a free throw, worth two or three points depending on the distance of the attempt from the basket. A minute is a unit of time in a basketball game. Technically, just a minimum of one second in silo (1-59) would count as one minute of playing time. There are forty-eight minutes in each NBA basketball game, excluding overtime. As five people from one team will be on the court at any given time, a total of 240 minutes can be distributed in regulation among a team in an NBA basketball game.
