The Louisiana State Legislature (french: Législature d'État de Louisiane) is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Louisiana. It is a bicameral body, comprising the lower house, the Louisiana House of Representatives with 105 representatives, and the upper house, the Louisiana State Senate with 39 senators. Members of each house are elected from single-member districts of roughly equal populations. The Louisiana State Legislature meets in the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge. Butch Gautreaux
Dudley Anthony Gautreaux, known as Butch Gautreaux (December 12, 1947 – February 22, 2020) was an American politician who served as a Democratic member of the Louisiana State Senate from Morgan City, Louisiana. From 2000 to 2012, he represented Senate District 21. In 2012, the reconfigured district incorporated mostly Republican portions of Iberia, Lafourche, St. Mary, and Lafourche parishes. Gautreaux won his last election to the Senate in 2007, when he defeated the Republican Clayton D. Diaz, 25,348 (71 percent) to 10,372 (29 percent). At that time the district also included two precincts in St. Martin Parish, since removed from the reconfiguration. From 1996 to 2000, Gautreaux was a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives from District 51 but vacated the post after the single term to run for the Senate. Joseph Arthur Harrison, known as Joe Harrison (born February 15, 1952), is an American politician and financial planner who served as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives for the 51st district from 2008 to 2016. He formerly served on the board of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a conservative group of state legislators and private businesspersons. Morgan City, Louisiana
Morgan City is a small city in St. Mary and lower St. Martin parishes in the U.S. State of Louisiana. The population was 12,404 at the 2010 census. Known for being “right in the middle of everywhere”, Morgan City is located 68 miles (109 km) southeast of Lafayette, 64 miles (103 km) south of Baton Rouge, and 86 miles (138 km) west of New Orleans Morgan City sits on the banks of the Atchafalaya River. The town was originally named "Tiger Island" by surveyors appointed by U.S. Secretary of War John Calhoun, because of a particular type of wild cat seen in the area.
