First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is of three or more days scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but the term was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the International Cricket Council, Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. A significant omission of the ICC ruling was any attempt to define first-class cricket retrospectively. Keith Bancroft
Claude Keith Bancroft (30 October 1885 in Fontabelle, St Michael, Barbados – 12 January 1919 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada) was a West Indian cricketer who toured with the second West Indian touring side to England in 1906 as their wicket-keeper. In 1904–05 he played for Barbados against Lord Brackley's team and then for the combined West Indies team in Barbados. He was chosen as the wicket-keeper for the 1906 tour to England. Before the tour he was described as "the wicket-leeper of the team, and will be of immense value to his side. Is at present studying at Cambridge, having won the last Barbados Scholarship" and "he is in residence at Cambridge as the team arrives in England. Herbert Bailey
Herbert Packer Bailey (5 December 1889 – 31 July 1917) was a Barbadian first-class cricketer and British Army officer. Life and military career Born in St Michael on 5 December 1889, Bailey appeared in three first-class matches for Barbados, all in the Inter-Colonial Tournament. In his debut, playing British Guiana at the Kensington Oval on 13 January 1909, Bailey scored 13 runs in his first inning, but did not bat in the second. Ryan Austin
Ryan Anthony Austin (born 15 November 1981) is a former West Indies international cricketer. A lower-order right-handed batsman and a right-arm off-spin bowler, Austin played 22 first-class matches for Barbados between the 2000–01 and 2006–07 seasons, and five for West Indies B in the 2003–04 season. His highest score in first-class cricket was 56 not out in a losing cause for Barbados against Windward Islands at Bridgetown in 2001–02. He has taken five wickets or more in an innings four times, and his best bowling was six for 86 for Barbados against Leeward Islands at Crab Hill in the Carib Beer Cup in 2006–07, when he was also named Man of the Match. Harold Austin
Sir Harold Bruce Gardiner Austin (15 July 1877 – 27 July 1943) was a Barbadian politician and cricketer. He was known as H.B.G.. Austin was the son of John Gardiner Austin, a shipper connected with the sugar trade, and his wife Dorothy and was educated at Harrison College, Barbados. He married Lillian Marie Dennehy in St. Lucia in 1904 and had two daughters. Austin was awarded the OBE in 1927, was knighted in 1935. He lost his seat to Charles Duncan O'Neal in 1932 by one vote. Austin was Speaker of the House of Assembly of Barbados 1934-1937, 1938-1942. Austin captained the West Indian cricket teams that toured England in 1906 and 1923.
