Carl Jungheim
Carl Jungheim (6 February 1830, Düsseldorf – 6 June 1886, Düsseldorf) was a German landscape painter, associated with the Düsseldorfer Malerschule. Biography From 1847 to 1852, he studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf with Friedrich Wilhelm von Schadow and the landscape painter, Johann Wilhelm Schirmer. He then took several study trips to Switzerland, Tyrolia and Italy (1856), where he travelled in the company of his fellow painters, August Leu and Albert Flamm. He initially focused on painting mountain scenes from the Alps and the Harz range. His later work displays a preference for Italian landscapes and shows the influence of Oswald Achenbach. One of his earliest exhibitions was in 1858 at the . At the 1873 Vienna World's Fair, he was represented with three paintings. He also gave private lessons. Oswald Achenbach
Oswald Achenbach (; 2 February 18271 February 1905) was a German painter associated with the Düsseldorf school of painting. Though little known today, during his lifetime he was counted among the most important landscape painters of Europe. Through his teaching activities, he influenced the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. His brother, Andreas Achenbach, who was twelve years older, was also among the most important German landscape painters of the 19th century. The two brothers were humorously called "the A and O of Landscapes" (a reference to their initials matching a common German reference to the Alpha and Omega). Malkasten
Malkasten (English: "Paintbox") is a progressive German artists' association, founded in Düsseldorf in 1848, during the March Revolution. Since 1867, their headquarters have been in the Pempelfort district. History During the unrest in 1848, artists also began to take part in political discussions. In August of that year, the held an event called the "Fest der Deutschen Einheit" (Festival for German Unity). Many artists and sculptors associated with the Düsseldorfer Malerschule took part in its artistic design. On the night of the celebration, they decided to establish an artist's association which, a few days later, they named "Malkasten", at the suggestion of Karl Hübner. Wilhelm Degode
Georg Wilhelm Degode (6 February 1862 – 26 November 1931) was a German landscape painter and photographer; associated with the Düsseldorfer Malerschule. Biography Degode was born in Oldenburg to a family of merchants, and was originally intended to follow in that profession. At the age of thirteen, he persuaded them to let him take drawing lessons from the curator at a local art gallery. After completing his secondary education, in 1881, he gained the support of his mother to attend the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. His initial teachers were Heinrich Lauenstein and Hugo Crola. Later, he studied with Carl Jungheim, and Eugen Dücker, as well as taking private lessons. At first, he shared a home and studio with . Marie Egner
Marie Egner (25 August 1850, Bad Radkersburg - 31 March 1940, Vienna) was an Austrian painter. Life Egner was born on 25 August 1850 in Bad Radkersburg, Austria. She took her first drawing lessons in Graz with Hermann von Königsbrunn, then went to Düsseldorf from 1872 to 1875, where she studied with Carl Jungheim. In 1882, she went to Vienna to live with her mother, but spent her summers at the art colony in Plankenberg Castle, near Neulengbach, where she took lessons with Emil Jakob Schindler until 1887. A study trip to England followed from 1887 to 1889. Shortly after, her first exhibition was held at the Vienna Künstlerhaus. She also exhibited in Germany and England. Friedrich Schaarschmidt (4 February 1863 – 12 June 1902) was a German landscape painter and figure painter of the Düsseldorf school of painting, conservator and art writer. Life Born in Bonn, Schaarschmidt was born in Bonn as the son of Professor Carl Schaarschmidt (1822-1908), a philosophy historian and head of the Bonn University Library. From 1880 until 1889, he studied painting at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. There, Hugo Crola, Johann Peter Theodor Janssen and Wilhelm Sohn, temporarily also Eduard von Gebhardt and Carl Ernst Forberg, were his teachers.
