Carl-Edvard Hedelund
Carl-Edvard Hedelund (born 14 March 1941) is a former tennis player from Denmark. Tennis career Hedelund participated at the 1959 Wimbledon boys' singles event, losing in the first round to eventual winner, Toomas Leius. Hedelund represented the Denmark Davis Cup team during the 1960s and 1970s, making his debut in the 1962 Europe Zone first round tie against New Zealand. His last Davis Cup appearance was seventeen years later, in 1979 against Italy. During his Davis Cup career, he won 3 of the 19 singles matches and 1 of the 6 doubles matches that he played. During 1963, Hedelund made his only appearance in the singles main draw of a Grand Slam tournament, when he lost in the first round of the US Open to Lee Fentress. Tennis
Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. Toomas Leius
Toomas Leius (born 28 August 1941) is a former tennis player from Estonia who competed for the Soviet Union. Career Leius was the boys' singles champion at the 1959 Wimbledon Championships. He won the Soviet Championships in 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1968. Other good performances during his career include reaching the final of the 1964 Queen's Club Championships, which he lost to Roy Emerson, and taking Rod Laver to five sets at the 1969 Heineken Open. He was a gold medalist in the mixed doubles at the 1970 Summer Universiade in Turin, with Tiiu Parmas. His best performance in the singles draw of a Grand Slam tournament came at the 1965 French Championships, where he made the quarter-finals. He was due to face South African player Cliff Drysdale in the quarter-final but the Soviet delegation made him forfeit the match, in protest against apartheid. Pia Balling
Kirsten Pia Balling (born 20 June 1940) is a Danish former professional tennis player. A native of Vedbæk, Balling started playing tennis at the age of 14 and received tutoring from Kurt Nielsen. Balling was an 11-time Danish national singles champion in the 1960s, winning five indoor and six outdoor titles. She featured in doubles main draws at Wimbledon during her career and in 1962 reached the singles third round of the U.S. National Championships.
