Caringbah South is a suburb located on the Port Hacking coastline in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is located 25 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the Sutherland Shire. Caringbah South sits on a peninsula, on the north shore of the Port Hacking estuary. The suburb forms the eastern border of Burraneer Bay and the western border of Yowie Bay. Caringbah is the only northern adjacent suburb, whilst Lilli Pilli, Dolans Bay and Port Hacking are adjacent southern suburbs. History Caringbah South was once part of Caringbah but was declared a separate suburb in 2008. There is a memorial fountain to Elizabeth Batts Cook, the wife of Captain James Cook, in the E. G. Tahyna MacManus (née Tozzi; born 24 April 1986) is an Australian actress, director, writer and producer. Tahyna starred in several television series and film blockbusters including '' X-Men Origins: Wolverine'' before moving to roles behind the lens focusing on directing and producing. ''Fernleigh'' is a heritage-listed former boatshed and homestead and now residence located at 44-46 Fernleigh Road, Caringbah South, New South Wales, a suburb of Sydney, Australia. It is also known as Mandalay and York House. The property is privately owned. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History ''Fernleigh'' is believed by Sutherland historians to have been completed in 1821 for Thomas Laycock Jr., who, while himself mostly resident at his property ''Kelvin'' at Bringelly, built the house for his second wife, Margaret Connell, and the six children of his first marriage to Isabella Bunker of '' Collingwood'', Liverpool. Eben Gowrie Waterhouse (1881–1977) was an Australian who had three distinguished careers. Starting out as an innovative teacher of languages, he became one of Australia's most prominent Germanists when classical German culture still commanded worldwide respect. James Cook
Captain (Royal Navy), Captain James Cook (7 November 1728 – 14 February 1779) was a British Royal Navy officer, explorer, and cartographer famous for his three voyages of exploration to the Pacific and Southern Oceans, conducted between 1768 and 1779. Elizabeth Batts Cook
Elizabeth Cook ( Batts; 4 February 1742 – 13 May 1835) was the wife, and, for more than 50 years, widow, of Captain James Cook. Biography Elizabeth Batts was the daughter of Samuel Batts who was Public house#Inns, keeper of the Bell Inn at Execution Dock, Wapping. Samuel Batts was one of Cook's mentors. She married James Cook at St Margaret's Church, Barking, Essex on 21 December 1762. Cook (1728–1779) was then a Master (naval), master in the Royal Navy but had not yet held his first independent command. The couple had six children: James (1763–94), Nathaniel (1764–80, lost aboard which foundered with all hands in a Great Hurricane of 1780, hurricane in the West Indies), Elizabeth (1767–71), Joseph (1768–68), George (1772–72) and Hugh (1776–93), the last of whom died of scarlet fever while a student at Christ's College, Cambridge. Caringbah is a suburb in Southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Caringbah is south of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of Sutherland Shire. Caringbah once stretched from Woolooware Bay on the Georges River to Yowie Bay and Burraneer Bay on the Port Hacking estuary. A number of Caringbah localities have been declared as separate suburbs but still share the postcode 2229. These suburbs include Taren Point to the north on the Georges River, and Port Hacking, Lilli Pilli, Dolans Bay and Caringbah South, located on the Port Hacking River to the south.
