Caringbah is a suburb in Southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Caringbah is south of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of Sutherland Shire. Caringbah once stretched from Woolooware Bay on the Georges River to Yowie Bay and Burraneer Bay on the Port Hacking estuary. A number of Caringbah localities have been declared as separate suburbs but still share the postcode 2229. These suburbs include Taren Point to the north on the Georges River, and Port Hacking, Lilli Pilli, Dolans Bay and Caringbah South, located on the Port Hacking River to the south. History is an Aboriginal word from the Kumbainggar language for ''a pademelon wallaby''. Cronulla Railway Line
The Cronulla railway line is a suburban branch line serving the southern suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Sydney Trains operates electric passenger train services over the line as part of its Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line. Description of route The line branches off the Illawarra railway line immediately south of Sutherland station, with a sharp turn towards the east. Due to sharpness of this curve, trains are limited to and noise walls have been built on both sides of the line to reduce noise levels for local residents. It is double track throughout, with all stations having island platforms, except Cronulla. Thomas Holt (Australian Politician)
Thomas Holt (14 November 1811 – 5 September 1888) was an English-born Australian pastoralist, company director and politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council between 1868 and 1883. He was also a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for two periods between 1856 and 1857 and again between 1861 and 1864. Holt was the first Colonial Treasurer in New South Wales. Early life Holt, born in Horbury, Yorkshire, England in November 1811, was the son of Thomas Holt Snr. a Yorkshire wool merchant and Elizabeth Ellis and was educated in Wakefield. He initially worked in his father's firm in Leeds but after 3 years became a wool buyer in London. Subsequently, Holt emigrated to Sydney in 1842 and made a fortune as a wool merchant. Port Hacking Estuary (Aboriginal Tharawal language: ''Deeban''), an open youthful tide dominated, drowned valley estuary, is located in southern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia approximately south of Sydney central business district.
