Carine Kanimba
Carine Kanimba is a Belgian-American political activist, lawyer and speaker, who is also the daughter of renowned Rwandan opposition figure Paul Rusesabagina. After their parents were presumed killed in the 1994 Rwanda genocide, Carine and her sister Anaise Kanimba were adopted by Mr. Rusesabagina and his wife Taciana Rusesabagina. At the time, Rusesabagina was a hotel manager at the Hôtel des Mille Collines in Kigali, Rwanda and famously sheltered over 1000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus in the hotel during the Rwanda Genocide. His heroic acts are depicted in the 2004 movie Hotel Rwanda. While her father’s victimization and torture by the Rwandan government has been at the forefront of her activism, Carine has also broadened her focus to include issues of international justice, the protection of political prisoners, and the role of international organizations in holding governments accountable. Paul Rusesabagina
Paul Rusesabagina (; (13 November 2013), by Patt Morrison, ''Los Angeles Times'' born 15 June 1954) is a Rwandan human rights activist and former hotelier. He worked as the manager of the Hôtel des Mille Collines in Kigali, during a period in which it housed 1,268 Hutu and Tutsi refugees fleeing the militia during the Rwandan genocide. None of these refugees were hurt or killed during the attacks. Paul Kagame
Paul Kagame ( ; born 23 October 1957) is a Rwandan politician and former military officer who has been the President of Rwanda since 2000. He was previously a commander of the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), a rebel armed force which invaded Rwanda in 1990. The RPF was one of the main belligerents of the Rwandan Civil War and was the armed force which ended the 1994's Rwandan genocide. Pegasus (spyware)
Pegasus is spyware developed by the Israeli cyber-arms company NSO Group that is designed to be covertly and remotely installed on mobile phones running iOS and Android. While NSO Group markets Pegasus as a product for fighting crime and terrorism, governments around the world have routinely used the spyware to surveil journalists, lawyers, political dissidents, and human rights activists. The sale of Pegasus licenses to foreign governments must be approved by the Israeli Ministry of Defense. As of September 2023, Pegasus operators were able to remotely install the spyware on iOS versions through 16.6 using a zero-click exploit.
