Chiesa Di San Giorgio E Dell'Immacolata Concezione
The Church of St George and the Immaculate Conception is the Roman Catholic parish church of Carimate, province of Como, Lombardy, northern Italy. History A church at the site dedicated to St George Martyr had been present since the 14th century. The church had a single nave and one chapel. It was enlarged over the next centuries, but completely rebuilt over the ruins of the earlier church in 1752 to 1755, and rededicated to San Giorgio martire and the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception, whose veneration was growing by this period. The belltower was added in 1932, to replace once erected in 1891, which itself replaced the 14th-century tower that had been razed in the 1750s enlargement of the church. The interior now contains a number of canvases, including a major work of Stefano Maria Legnani, depicting ''St Joseph and the Child Jesus with attendant angels'' (1693). Castello Di Carimate
The Castello di Carimate is a 14th-century castle located on Piazza Castello #1 in the town of Carimate, Province of Como, Lombardy, Italy. History The first documents herald that Luchino I Visconti in 1345 reconstructed a citadel at the site, destroyed by prior conflicts between Como and Milan. By 1380, Bernabò Visconti sold the castle to his wife Beatrice Regina della Scala. The castle passed through a few Visconti hands, and by 1415, Filippo Maria Visconti, granted the castle to a Domenico Aicardi, captain of his stable, as a reward for revealing the conspiracy of the Malatesta, Arcelli and Beccaria. In addition, he was granted the right to add the Visconti suffix to his name. After the transfer of power from the Visconti to the Sfroza, in 1477, Galeazzo Maria Sforza reconfirmed the property as belonging to the heirs of Giorgio Scaramuzza Visconti Aicardi, which include a son Lancelotto Visconti, who in 1481 refurbished again the Castle. Cantù
Cantù (; Brianzöö: ) is a city and ''comune'' in the Province of Como, located at the center of the Brianza zone in Lombardy. It is the second largest city in Brianza. History The name could stem from that of the Canturigi, a population of Insubria of the 6th century BC. A village was founded here by Gauls in the following century, which was conquered by the Romans in 196 BC. In the Middle Ages Cantù was a source of conflict between the cities of Milan and Como. The Sforza of Milan took control permanently in the 15th century. Main sights The main attraction of Cantù is the Basilica di San Vincenzo in the ''frazione'' Galliano, which was consecrated in 1007 by the future Archbishop of Milan, Ariberto da Intimiano. The building was sold in 1801 to become a private dwelling, before being bought by the municipality in 1909 and reconsecrated in 1934.
